To the OP. Have you gone into the task manager and disabled many or all of the start up processes? That may make a difference.

My system taking exactly 20seconds but if restarted, it will take more than a minute.

 

I can understand that... thanks.

But I'm still not understanding why it would take 70 seconds more to restart... I thought restarting in general was suppose to be faster because it skips certain aspects that happen during a power off / power on?

 

Win 10 or Toshiba in your opinion ?

Yes I have. In my original post, I stated that I used Ccleaner and Autoruns etc to check and disable any unnecessary auto-start programs. I have also removed any unnecessary Scheduled Tasks. Basically the only auto-start items I have now, is avast! Anti-Virus, Comodo Firewall, and OneDrive. I tried to disable OneDrive, it did not make much difference.

I have booted into Safe Mode. Interestingly that did NOT make a difference. The only difference was, the login time was a bit faster (ie the time from entering your password to when the desktop appears). But the black screen before the login page, was still the same (1:20 or so).

 

IMHO it is with this build of Windows 10. After upgrading to the "final" (release) version, my MSI netbook has the same issue, but the black screen lasts for about 50 seconds (as compared to before, which did not have much of a black screen). On the netbook it is a 32-bit version of Windows 10 Pro.

 

I wouldn't worry about it. 1-3 min from shut off to desktop is probably the norm. I do wonder what Win 10 is doing with a 30 sec black screen.

 

Interesting. I have exactly the same problem, but for me Safe Mode does make a difference -- there is no black screen when I boot into Safe Mode and the total boot time is only about 15 seconds.

Does anyone know how to trace the boot process in Windows 10? Windows 7 and 8 had xbootmgr, but there doesn't appear to be Windows 10 version. All I've managed to find so far is the boot log which is not very helpful. The only things which are weird about it are that it tries to load certain drivers multiple times and only succeeds the first time. That is:

BOOTLOG_LOADED \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys
BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys (5 times)

BOOTLOG_LOADED \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\WdFilter.sys
BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\WdFilter.sys (only 1 time)

The Event Viewer isn't very helpful either (or maybe I don't know exactly how to look).

 

Instead of restarting... I just opt to shutdown and then hit the power button again *Smile

 

I still think sometimes it does make a difference. If you have fast-startup enabled, the shutdown is a hybrid of shutdown / hibernation. So I think using the actual shutdown (shutdown -f -s) is a "cleaner" way of doing it.

You might notice that, if you go to Task Manager, the System Up Time would not be reset when you use fast shutdown.

I have done several clean re-install of Windows 10 on the same PC.

Before doing the clean install, I deleted all partitions on the HDD - except for the UEFI partition.

After that, I installed drivers / programs one by one, restarting twice after each, using a stopwatch for timing. Also, I ensured that the PC is not connected to the Internet, otherwise Windows will automatically download drivers for Graphics, Touchpad etc that are not necessary the most up to date.

From the time the OEM logo appears till it disappears, it always takes about 10 - 15 seconds.

The time right after the OEM disappears till the Login screen appears:

Clean install, without installing any drivers / programs: 20 sec
Installed several drivers incl Intel Chipset, HD Graphics etc: 20 sec
Installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver: 40 sec.

Uninstalled the Intel Rapid Storage driver, did a cleanup, but the start up time did not return back to 20 sec.

At this stage, I resorted to another clean install. This time, decided not to install the Intel RST driver.

Installed several more drivers: 20 sec

Installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC: 40 sec
Installed avast anti-virus: 40 sec
Installed several more programs, incl Google Chrome etc: 40 sec

Installed Comodo Firewall: 1min 10 sec

Installed MS Office: 1min 10 sec.

Basing on the above, quite obvious some programs are causing problems.

FYI, all drivers are downloaded straight from the respective official sites to make sure they are most up to date.

 

You could try http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb963902 and use autoruns.exe. This will show whats logging on at start up, services, etc.
