  1. Windows 10 commonly boots to a black screen with no cursor?

Do let me know how it goes. If you erase the wrong partition, Windows 7 will not be able to start. I am holding my breath haha. I haven't done it myself, just seen examples from others. I Never had a need to dual-boot, since they have virtual machine technology.

  2. Well, it installed smoothly and booted to the desktop, but after restarting, the Windows 8+ version of the OS select (with mouse support) will lock up and not respond to keyboard or mouse input, and after five timeout seconds, the screen goes black and nothing else happens. A hard reset is needed. *Mad Afterward, startup repair still says it's incompatible, CHKDSK did some repairs to the file system apparently, and after that 10 won't do anything but try to do a repair that doesn't succeed. Once I actually made it to the logon screen, but it had frozen. Perfect... *Banghead Only the old keyboard-only boot manager works and the only way I can even remotely get 10 to start is to enable low res video. However, I haven't installed a single driver or program. It's still as it came. However, I realized one fault of mine. I didn't remove my external hard drive before installing. (not that I installed it on it but still I forgot to)
    *Doh

  3. You can attempt to install 10 as many times as you like. Not sure what you mean by Windows 8, as I thought you were trying to dual boot Windows 7 and 10?

And you definitely need the drivers installed. but that is besides the point, as you're having trouble just getting in.

I couldn't find the drivers myself from the ASRock website based on what you wrote about your system in your system specs.

If you update that, I could see if it even provides drivers for Windows 10, which would indicate to me whether Windows 10 was truly compatible with your system or not. If it lists drivers, 10 should work. If not, I would keep Windows 7 or whatever it is you got, and completely scrap 10. I just wouldn't risk it without good drivers.

Besides that, I have to say once more I am no good at dual-boot advice. I provided those links to help you dual-boot and install Windows 10, so my best advice would be to try and follow them again, being extra careful to read every line, follow every step, and go slowly.

Which drivers weren't you able to find? I had them installed (the ones that came on my CD) on it before I deleted the partition and they worked fine, except for the USB 3 driver, which never worked on either OS in the case of my external hard drive which is USB 3. But that's besides the point.

  5. The motherboard you listed in your system specs called "ASROCK 980DE3/US3S" didn't appear in the search results. So I was just saying I personally couldn't find the drivers. And the DVD drivers are very old, don't use those at all. Use the ones from the manufacturer's website, if you can find them.

  6. I searched up the board and found it plus its latest drivers. However, the only one that isn't from 2012 is the AMD chipset driver which is from this April. How old are the ones on the disc?

  7. You're supposed to look up the drivers by Operating System. 2012 was the date Windows 8 was released. Does that mean they only have those drivers, and no drivers for Windows 10? It is the Windows 10 drivers you're looking for, to give your system some stability. I am surprised they don't have anything newer, since 10 was released this year. Well, I guess you'd be looking for drivers for both of your OSes, 10 and the other one.

How is it running? Still having issues? Are both OSes having issues, or just one?

  8. Windows 10 commonly boots to a black screen with no cursor?

Only the "Appcharger" driver (no idea what it's for) has apparent compatibility with Windows 10, but since it's a 2013 driver, that support is probably for very early preview builds, like 7000 and lower... 10 still wants to do an automatic repair that doesn't succeed every boot, but 7 still runs fine. At least, the driver says "Windows 10 64 bit v1.0.6" in it's description.

  9. If I were you, I'd stick with 7. Even if you were to get 10 going, you'll still encounter problems because you don't have any drivers for it. And I myself can't figure out what would be wrong with getting 10 started in the first place *Sad

  10. I did forget to unplug my external hard drive during installation, but that couldn't be too big of an issue. I planned on using 7 anyway, but it just doesn't make sense as to why 10 won't go, especially when I haven't done anything to it yet. Eh, one of life's greatest mysteries I guess. Thanks for trying though, I appreciate it.

  12. There's a BIOS update for this motherboard that's from 2015 that adds support for more CPUs and fixes other issues. I updated that and both my aero issue from Windows 7 and my compatibility issue for Windows 10 are both gone. If I were you I'd try to update that but be careful. Doing it wrong or other will cause permanent damage to your hardware. Link: ASRock > 980DE3/U3S3
