Windows 10: Windows 10 Compatibility with MS Money2003 and IE

challenor4, try again. Follow the instructions given by ThaiAm and JerseyBiker. JerseyBiker's detailed instructions are excellent, follow them exactly. To assist I have repeated them and highlighted where you might be going wrong:-

To edit the registry RIGHT click on the start button, click run, type regedit and click OK. You should see about 6 items including HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click on the ">" in front of it and you will have a bunch of registry keys drop down, scroll down to Software and click ">", next scroll down to Wow6432Node and click ">", next scroll down to Microsoft and click ">", scroll down to Internet Explorer and click directly on it. (i.e.Dont scroll down to Version Vector). On the right side of the screen you will see "version". Right click version, next click modify. You will see a box with the default value. Change it to 9.11.10240.0 You can copy and paste it in if you want. Also if you have 32bit Windows you probably do not have Wow6432Node so Internet Explorer will be in Software\Microsoft. It's always best to reboot your computer after making registry changes.

 

I have followed these instructions to the letter and I am still required to have IE 6.

 

As you se from above, sadly it does not!

 

Are you sure you changed the version value? Changing the build value won't work. See picture below:







Not sure if you also have to change the W2kversion.

In case you want to try the latest Money version here it is. If you install and run it in Windows 7 compatibility mode, it could work in Windows 10. And anything you run, right-click and Run as Administrator to make sure it has the necessary access rights.

EDIT: Just downloaded it and checked. I set compatibility to Windows 7 and ran the setup as Administrator, disabled antivirus as suggested. It installed without any issues. I then right-clicked on the shortcut and set compatibility to Windows 7 and checked the Run as Administrator box. It loaded and worked without any error message. So it last version does work on Windows 10, but I don't know if your old 2003 version files can be used on that. Since you got version 2003 working, I recommend to stick with it and avoid installing the new version.

Apparently, Windows 10 updates fixed the problem and no longer requires the registry edit.

 

Why not import the data to something newer? Even the IRS suggests only keeping 7 years of financial records.

 

Supposedly, Microsoft Money has the best portfolio manager which is the reason no one found a replacement yet and people have gotten the quotes working.

 

You could keep your data in Excel files, if you had the patience to transfer them all, and if you where familiar with the relevant functions to compute stuff. That's why others prefer Money, to make their life easier. Excel is much more difficult without proper expertise.

 

Excel would work but it really depends since Money tells me almost in real time how much money I have, with slightly delayed figures on the gains/losses and even my sold securities will still be available for lookup. This is the reason people use Money and not Quicken.
