2. Lumia 950 fails to connect to WiFi while Bluetooth is enabled

Hi again

I have a better understanding now about how my new Router has "solved" the issue. It hasn't. But it does provide a workaround.

• My old router had both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi but they were broadcast using the same SSID name.

• My new router also has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz but allows them to have separate SSIDs.

With the new router, I set up my Lumia 950 to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, but left it with the 5GHz network connected when I did my testing.

I went out last night and when I came home, the phone connected to the 2.4GHz WiFi and the issue "returned" (it had never really went away). So, I made my phone forget the 2.4GHz WiFi and so now it only connects to the 5GHz WiFi.

The "solution" I have with the new router is to not use 2.4GHz WiFi. This then avoids the clash with Bluetooth (which also uses 2.4GHz frequency range).

-----------

The old router did not allow me to turn off 2.4GHz WiFi (I could turn off 5GHz) and did not allow me to specifically tell a device to connect to 5GHz.

This also explains how sometimes (with the old router) when I would come home with Bluetooth turned on and my phone would seem to work for a while before failing. It would have been connecting to 5GHz initially, until it lost the 5GHz network at some stage
and then tried to reconnect to 2.4GHz and failed.

So if your router can have separate SSIDs for the two ranges use that feature. Then set your phone to only use 5GHz.

The problem remains that Bluetooth and 2.4GHz WiFi cannot work together.

3. Can't disable "Connect Automatically" for wireless settings.

This is very frustrating. I keep trying to disable the connect automatically option in Windows 10 and it won't uncheck. Every time I make sure it's disabled after I unchecked it, it's still checked. Last time I found that it will stay unchecked if I uncheck
it, connect to it, and disconnect from it. The problem is that it checked itself AGAIN another day. It keeps connecting to my 2.4GHz wireless instead of my 5GHz one. It does it randomly too, out of nowhere it will connect to the 2.4GHz from the 5GHz. Even
in the middle of an online game. For some unknown reason, my 2.4GHz one is very slow. 3mbps compared to 90mbps on 5GHz. I only have 2 devices connected to the 2.4GHz and I can't disable 2.4GHz because those two devices only support 2.4GHz.

This was an issue in Windows 7 too. When I had Windows 7, there was an option to forget the network. I did that and it still would connect to the 2.4GHz one without me even typing in the password.

How can I fix this?

You have to disconnect the connection and sign in to the 5 ghz network....as the 5 ghz has a different SSID and password.

5. I have 4 WiFi access points all with same SSID, if they all have same ID and password, Windows will always switch to the one with strongest signal, if all signals are equal then it may switch to the 5G version.

As mentioned before, if you want to force always 5G then change that access point SSID, this way Windows won't switch.

Tenforums has a tutorial written by Brink on how to change the priority of wireless networks.
Wireless Network Connection Priority Order - Change in Windows 10

In your case I would use option 2, Also look at the examples to help you figure it out.

If you need more help feel free to ask more questions on this thread -- me or any other user will be glad to help.

Are you certain your computer has a 5ghz wireless radio?

Thinking the same thing. This is where netsh wlan show all comes in handy.

seems like its solved by logging into my modem router and disabling the SSID for the 2.4ghz network... but now it takes several minutes for my wifi to connect for some reason

I get a error message that says priority order for profile is not changed.. it also shows that i have 4 diferent profiles which seems completely unecessary... option two doesnt work either because windows simply just re-checks the connect automatically button after unchecking it..

It may be a hidden item in Device Manager under Network Devices. You should not have four profiles.

12. if your router has that option you could also deny access to 2.4 to the MAC address of your wireless device

Are you talking about network profile's. I would see which one might be causing you problems.

In an administrator's command prompt type or paste this Code: netsh wlan show profiles
If you want to delete one use this command in an administrator's command prompt. Code: netsh wlan delete profile name="[PROFILE NAME]"
I would probably delete all the profile's and start over with a clean slate, Then connect to the 5 GHz network.

Make another profile for the 5 GHz network with the priority if it does not work as expected

If you deny the MAC on a Gateway, it will deny it from being able to connect, regardless which radio is the one that you want it to connect. Those that use MIMO for faster Wireless-N and Wireless-ac, use both radios at the same time with at least three channels for faster speeds.
