Windows 10: Windows 10 Creators Update rollout: First phase update

Discus and support Windows 10 Creators Update rollout: First phase update in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; I can't see how a machine would work fine on 1607 and no longer compatible with 1703. I haven't seen or heard of any cases? You would think that... Discussion in 'Windows 10 News' started by Brink, Apr 24, 2017.

You would think that should be the case. I get the impression skylake is holding my machine back from getting it via Windows update as MS has issues with it, seems bizarre to me that all previous builds work fine with this ultra modern cpu yet creators update has bugs with them.

one thing with the constant changing of builds that occurred to me. System specs. As Microsoft keeps moving the goalposts I can foresee a scenario where a piece of software or a game in the future might work only on an older Windows build but no longer work or be supported on a newer build (or vice versa). I'm not seeing system specs to take that into account, a game on steam or retail shelves will list minimum specs as say Windows 8/8.1/10 and this could end up misleading people if they don't specify builds or just totally confuse someone to which ' works on Windows 10 minimum v9999 777.1111.888 change for the sake of change edition' most people means nothing to them.

Doubt it and haven't seen anything official but others may correct me. Did you get this error when 1703 was rolled out to you thru Windows Update, or did you try manually? Can you post a screenshot of the error?

I have a euro spec'd Dell Dimension 5000 that has absorbed all updates thus far smoother (not faster) than any of the newer machines in my household. Still waiting on 1703 to come through Update and not gonna force it. I'll post when this happens.

Allrighty, just got the privacy settings pop up yesterday so Creators should be coming through any time now.

Yeah I finally got privacy settings KB come through on windows update. But no popup, I scanned start menu and saw an update and privacy settings entry amid the programs, clicked it and the pop up to accept came up. Accepted everything and saw message about 'we will handle update from here etc'. But checking for updates is not pulling creators update through. I though it would find it as soon as those privacy settings had been accepted. At least that was the case on our other pc that got updated a couple months ago. Or are people finding they have to still wait a while?

Wow... just wow. So today on a hunch I checked WU, and lo and behold it was sitting there... But my excitement would soon turn to frustration. Never had a single issue with any W10 update including Anniversary on this ancient desktop, but Creators changed that. WiFi completely shot, and upon Restart which would take minutes I got the below error. Not sure if both issues were connected, since during my troubleshooting loops I got rid of the latter temporarily. But never got either of my D-link DWA-566 or a Cisco WUSB600N (for testing) to work. Even if they installed correctly they failed to connect. Surprisingly device manager would show no errors, but something was up since neither remove of device or (manual) driver update would work, always hung up til I kill the task. Hours and countless restarts later I gave up since I don't have the time and actually work on this machine. Rolled back to 1607 which went flawless. Might get back to it in the way of doing a fresh install of Creators ideally in a dual boot setup so I can easily fall back to 1607 and investigate more, should I end up in the same situation.

Just learned here Old computers not yet compatible with 1703 (Broadcom 440x driver) what happened... wish I had seen it earlier. Sooo looks like the rollout to my machine, as long as it took, was still premature. And it goes to show Microsoft apparently doesn't profile end user hardware to that level of detail for their rollout strategy.

  7. Apparently, I looked on the website, and Microsoft said updating using the Update Assistant was discouraged. Don't know why.

This update has another feature of stopping Nvidia quadro video cards. At least for 2 models i've tried. Hard to troubleshoot without being able to see anything. After 2 days of troubleshooting worked out its the Creators Edition Upgrade causes the problem. So don;t leap to the creators edition if your running Nvidia Quadro Cards.

After last update (this week one) i got number of issues , i have cellular connection so now it says "
the modem or other connection device is already use or is not configured properly" if i want use ras one ,while NDIS is very unreliable it does work, also now i need to connect manually to get it working (by clicking off the box that says let windows mange it) my modem may be old but previously it always worked in win 10 why now to ruin it.
also i noticed searching files dont work that well , most files dont appear only the files that are in subfolders and i just lost over 10 gb memory.
I wish downgrade to previous one it sucks

There are two ways you can accomplish this; One is by doing a uninstalling the update.

In win 10 the updates are forced on you so i am not sure if that helps anyway

Since today my the search works and the internet connected without checking off the box let windows handle this i also found fix on my RAS problem Dial-up error 633 w Pro - Microsoft Community *Smile so after i did and restated i tried ras one and it didn say already use bla bla configure so i guess it fixed my problem.

    Thank you anyway
