    Good day


    My hardware sticker indicates that I have a Windows 10 Pro digital license, I installed Windows 10 Pro accordingly.

    Now when I try activate my digital licence it says that I have a Home Single Language licence and must install correct version.


    Please advise how this is possible and what could be the cause of this, I have activated many machines without fail in this regard but today suddenly things changed?


    Please revert with reasons and a fix to resolve urgently to activate the Pro version which is what I require.

    Windows Activation issues Windows 10 Insider Preview / Digital Licence

    Ok so I have encountered an issue activating Windows 10 Pro after I have installed the latest Insider Preview Release. Now I had the same issue on the 14th Jan 2017, spoke to a very helpful agent via Microsoft Answer Desk who told me there was an issue with
    the key and that she would escalate the case to the Product Key Team. The issue was then resolved without further interaction and I could active via Digital Licence as I had done previously.

    Fast forward to today and I have the exact same issue yet every agent (4 in total) state I cannot activate as I have the Windows Insider Preview installed and the final agent has told me I have hit the digital licence activation limitation of 2 reactivations
    and that I have to buy I knew key.

    I know about the hardware change activation limitation being 10, I did not know about the digital reactivation limitation and cannot find any information about this and I have hit a dead end.

    Here is a background of how I change to Windows 10.

    Installed Windows 8.1 Pro and activated with a valid key. Linked my account to the OS.

    Upgraded to Windows 10 Home and activated with the Windows 8.1 Pro Key,

    Windows 10 Home was upgraded to Windows 10 Pro automatically as part of the process. Everything is fine, or so I thought.

    Installed Windows Insider Preview (I forget which build) Windows is still activated.

    I encounter an issue after installing another Windows Insider build where I needed to reactivate, I do not know what caused the issue however I could not use my digital licence tied to my account, I get an error as follows

    "We can’t activate your copy of Windows because the digital licence for this device has already been used to reactivate Windows."

    Had a chat with an agent via Microsoft Answer Desk (case ID 1370500929) who after troubleshooting and escalating the case resolved the issue. reactivation now possible.

    Now today the same issue has cropped up and again I cannot reactivate with the key or Digital Licence, I get the same error as before. Raised another case with Microsoft Answer Desk and the agent point blankly refused to help as I have Windows Insider Preview
    Installed, after a little polite back and forth with the agent his supervisor took over and again this message was the same, I have insider preview installed. Even though this should not be an issue as per Microsoft support info I should be able to activate
    via Digital Licence I have tied to my account.

    a short while later I start another chat with Microsoft Answer Desk after stating the issue I finally get the agent to connect to my computer he attempts troubleshooting via Elevated PowerShell which requires a restart, he advises me I will reconnect to
    him automatically, I reboot reconnect and he terminates the session so back to square one.

    Another chat with another Microsoft Answer Desk agent (final case ID 1372993978) and this appears to be different. This time I am told I have hit digital device reactivation limit even though I have told her there has been no hardware change at any point.
    In order to activate as normal i.e digital reactivation I have to install Windows 10 Home, then attempt reactivation and then reinstall Windows Insider Preview. this counter productive and as I see it pointless.

    So I have gotten no further in getting this issue resolved but it has raised more questions than answers.

    1. Why can one agent resolve the issue after escalating the case to a different team after establishing the issue and cause.

    2. Why would having Windows Insider Preview prevent resolution, I know there are no support channels but if the first agent knew I had Windows Insider Preview Installed and resolved the issues then why can't other agents.

    3. Why would I a. need to buy a new key after apparently hitting a "digital device reactivation limit of 2" despite no hardware changes or b. Have to install Windows 10 Home to resolve the issue when this was not a requirement by the very first agent who
    did resolve the exact same issue.

    What do I do now and how do I resolve the issue that others apparently will not or cannot. Any help will be appreciated.
