Windows 10: Windows 10 Digital License vs Product Key

Hi,


I am looking to upgrade my pc and was looking into how I would have to reactivate my windows 10 OS afterwards. I understand the difference between a digital license and a product key - or at least I thought I did. But my question has to do with my laptop. I purchased a new laptop in April 2017 with windows 10 preinstalled. But when I looked at my activation status, it says my windows 10 Home is activated with a digital license. Shouldn't it say that it is activated with a product key? My understanding is that a new device with windows installed should come with a product key.

Every time i start my laptop the windows activation page opens up. The 2nd step is to type in the product key/digital license.

When you upgraded from a previous version of Windows or receive a new computer preinstalled with Windows 10, what happened is the hardware (your PC) will get a digital entitlement, where a unique signature of the computer will be stored on Microsoft

Anytime you need to reinstall Windows 10 on that machine, just proceed to reinstall Windows 10. It will automatically reactivate. You will prompted to enter a product key a couple times through the installation, click I don't have

There is no need to know or get a new key, but if you have issues with Digital Licensing or the Activation Troubleshooter, you can utilize an existing Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 product key you already own to
reactivate if necessary. or use the reset function in Windows 10.

Sounds like Ransomware/Identity Theft to me.

The free Windows 10 does not come with a Product Key.

I would suggest he use "Factory Reset/Install" to clean out the Trojan/Ransomware and then reinstall Windows. In the end this will be quicker than all these other processes.
