Windows 10: Windows 10 - Disk xx has been surprise removed - Xbox GamePass Virtual disk drives.

You need to up date windows error reporting to stop giving out errors like this related to Xbox Game Pass.


For some reason xbox game pass creates virtual drives for each game you install.


Now for some reason when these drives are disconnected, either from Game Pass updating them, not sure, it creates a windows error log, saying surprise removal.. stop this,,,



I have been thinking I have issued with faulty drives!!! and been trying to trouble shoot this for a while now..

Hi, I am randomly getting these warnings in event viewer. I am not sure why this is happening but this has been happening for a while now and it seems to happen every few hours.
I only have 3 internal drives (2 HDDs & 1 SSD) and 5 partitions total (screenshot of disk manager) but the warnings often get up to disk 12 (see screenshot below) so it doesn't even make sense. I also don't have any external drives or flash drives connected to my PC.
So... should I be worried or just ignore it?

Disk 3 has been surprise removed / Windows 10

I see an issue with the display of the disks in that there are 3 disks but the numbering is 0, 1 and 2. Used to be with the PATA drives one had to plug the data cables into the motherboard in a certain manner but the newer SATA cables can be plugged into any of the SATA ports on the motherboard and the OS installed as the builder desires.

Disk 2 listed appears to be an External USB drive, perhaps it is a USB port issue?
