You'll be unlikely to see anything, except for things slowing down as the big download interferes with normal traffic and disk activity.

A universally present, safely hidden and generally unreachable location such as C:\System Volume Information will receive the partial download ESD, probably with some meaningless GUID type name, which on completion, and possibly after you have accepted the invitation to start the upgrade, will be decrypted to $Windows.~BT on the boot drive of the system you have selected for upgrading. Then things will start happening!

  5. Are you sure about that? MS never said it wouldn't download, that it would only be available on the 29th. A lot of games through Steam and GOG pre-download prior to release and "unlock" through a patch the day of release. I suspect MS might follow this same tactic to get Windows 10 on as many machines as possible day of release. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Windows 10 hasn't been downloading to people's systems since 10240 was released.

  6. According to this, they will be downloaded before the 29th http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...nMore_win10faq
When you reserve, you can confirm your device is compatible with Windows 10. Between reservation and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need for the upgrade will be downloaded to your PC to make the final installation go more quickly. Then, when your upgrade is ready after July 29, 2015, you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade.

  10. A few days ago I downloaded a Win 10 64-bit ISO, which I now have on DVD. The size of the file on the DVD is as per the screen capture below

    Windows 10 download [IMG]

What do I do now? I read that I need to insert the DVD containing the ISO file, and then "mount" the file. I then need to run the "setup.exe" file from the DVD
How to I go about "mounting" the ISO file that I have burned on the DVD-R?

It sounds like you burned the ISO image to a DVD, is that correct? If so boot the current operation system, on the desktop open "My Computer" and browse to the setup.exe on the DVD - then run it.

  12. I thank you for the quick reply to my question. Yes, I downloaded the Win10 ISO file, and burned it to a DVD. I now have the ISO file as per the image I posted in my opening post on the DVD.

But I have read that I need to "mount" the ISO file that is on the DVD, but was not sure what that meant.

If it is just a case of running the setup.exe file from that DVD, then I should be able to manage that. Thanks again.

No, if you just had the actual file, the Windows 10.ISO file, you right click it and select mount. Then it shows up in MY PC like and inserted DVD in a DVD drive. It mounts it in a virtual drive. If you burned a DVD from the file, you don't need to mount it. You just insert it in your DVD drive and run setup.exe.

If you can browse to setup.exe on the DVD then you're good to go.
