No need to socially engineer people to get them to download trojans dude. Wheres your proof of concept that this was not injected with malware (mustnt even been done by the dev themselves). As this software maker incorporates torrent search engines into his main product a slight glimpse of doubt about potential risks might be not too paranoid? Especially because windows defender rarely EVER mocks up against anything and silently and reliably does its job (MS bashing aint scientific). Better safe than sorry and since vs 2.2 has been out for only a couple of days i doubt you have any authority to talk about 100% safeness. Id rather use the regedit fix ..but wait..those guys fail to deliver the method to do so....but they say it can be done and has to be repeated every 2 reboots...i prefer a batch file which contents i control ..anyone have the syntax for that fix?

Btw .. Virustotal behaviour analysis shows:

  2. I have tested and used it safely for months, have you? Torrent search engines aren't inherently evil and I doubt they waited for the new version to unleash malware on unsuspected users. You might want to compare with the latest Windows releases and the ways they "phone home". No one is bashing Microsoft but if you had been paying attention, you'd know this thread is not about malware, but about a serious Microsoft Windows visual problem that is mostly solved by now and that the DPI Fix software is not required any more (although it might still be helpful in some cases). Your misguided paranoia arrived very late in this case. I just checked the new version with my own security suite (much better than Defender btw, as most are - and this isn't MS bashing, just well-known, tested and proven fact) and it reported no warnings whatsoever. It's quite possible that if you wait long enough, Defender will know about it too and stop giving you alerts...

you shouldnt be so hasty condescending on people who have awareness of security issues my friend. it is not helping the cause.
Ive been doing this for 25 years and id rather have 1 doubt to many than getting my files encrypted by some shitty backdoor download.

Agreed, but you shouldn't be so hasty either in accusing a software vendor as malware promoters (a pretty heavy accusation) with your only "proof" being a Windows Defender false positive.

    Ran into same issue.
Scaled to 125% from new control panel interface and many desktop applications got blurry text.

Scaled it back to 100%. Went into old control panel "Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display", clicked on "set a custom scaling level", chose 125%, applied and restarted the computer.
    Voila. Everything scaled perfectly.

  6. I'm really not sure who's to blame here for the blurriness with the default scaling method (not the "custom" scaling one, inherited from the perfectly fine previous Windows versions), Microsoft or program developers for not making their apps fully DPI-aware.

However, since Windows' own components like the Device Manager are also blurred, I'd be inclined towards MS...

  7. Windows 8.1 doesn't allow you to set different scaling per display manually, so when Windows 10 came along at first I was happy. I have my 15" laptop "Retina Display" at 175%, I have my 24" Samsung 4K display at 150%, and I have my 19" display at 100%. But then: jaggy fonts on Thunderbird, jaggy fonts in Chrome. This is worse than it was before. So now I have used the XP Explorer utility, but it doesn't work any better than Windows 8.1 (after all that's what it says it'll do.) So now at least my primary display, the 24" Samsung 4K doesn't look terrible. The 19" display has giant windows and big fonts, and is barely useful, and the 15" retina is a little small, but it's clear enough. So this is still something Microsoft needs to fix, because neither solution works properly for me. Thanks though to the XP Explorer thing, which keeps me from going mad, and tossing my 24" 4K display out the window.
(The fonts in Chrome looking at Google Voice on the 19" display still look blocky and terrible, but I've given up on that... I)

My experience with different scaling options is poor. At work, I want to run my laptop 15" screen which is 1920x1080 at 125%, but want my dual 23" monitors which are 1920x1080 to run 100%. But whenever I choose different options, outlook and citrix receiver look like crap on either the laptop or monitors. I can only keep it clear when all are same DPI setting. And Citrix receiver is mangled on anything other than 100%. So, I am running my 15" display at 1920x1080 at 100%. It looks fantastic, albeit a bit small.
