Well, didn't have either filter. My key looked like the one in the pic, without the filters, with the exception of the "Installer 32" entry that I didn't have. Could that be the problem?

I'm gonna try this. Thanks. The only thing is, my drive is in the inventory of "This PC". It ejects, and obeys every command except "Play". There were two, the exact same type. I took one out, and installed it in another PC. VOILLA! It works. Nothing wrong with the drive. That's why I wondered if the driver may not be "signed" in Windows 8.1, and 10. They both worked in Windows 7.

It's usually not the drive assuming you are able to test the drive in another machine to verify it still works. I've had problems with drives dying before.

 

Go into Device Manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and uninstall channel 0 and channel 1. Reboot the computer and those 2 things will automatically reinstall and your problem may be fixed. It has worked for other people.

 

That was the first thing that I did. No, it didn't work...

 

I wonder if I'm describing the issue adequately. What other info should I include? All of the "basic" troubleshooting techniques have been tried, and tried again. I am seriously thinking of just calling this issue a "ghost" issue. I've tried the drives elsewhere, and they work. I don't know what else to include. I apologize...

Sounds like it's time for a reinstall

And I know this is super late, but I tested it and the DVD Player app does work with ISO files. You just have to double-click on one to mount it using the built-in image mounter and it should work just like a physical disc.

 

That thread was the same as this one, basically. They didn't have the drives listed in the "This PC". I see them, they just don't do anything. I can eject them, but when I try to open them, I get a "Please insert a disc..." message.

 

Not quite, that thread is more for the hardware not showing up. This thread is more for people talking about DVD playback software which assumes the hardware already works.

But that's what I'm saying too. I see them in the "This PC" page. I can click "Eject", and the thing ejects. But when I click "Open", it asks for a disc..., and that's when a disc is inserted. So....
