  1. Windows 10 "Enter network credentials" window for file servers without any accounts!

    Hi Community,

Most frustrating: I have 2 Windows 10 computers, mine is the Pro version and my wife's the Home version. Mine has no problem whatsoever connecting to all of my file servers (3) and within "Advanced sharing settings" "Password protected sharing" is turned on! (that's one solution debunked). My wife's has stopped connecting after the latest Windows 10 update (mine got the same update too). Now, for every server share a "Windows Security"window pops up asking to "Enter network credentials". I've tried almost everything; turning off firewalls, turning off "Password protected sharing", stopping services etc. Nothing stops this bloody window from popping up. None of my servers have accounts set up either and they are "open" within our local network.

I've run out of options. Any ideas what to do?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Bikegreeny (aka Michael).

    :)

  2. Enter Network Credentials - Windows 10

    Rick,

Your analysis helped me think out of the box, and solved my issue with the Network Credentials!

The Network Credentials pop up in Windows 10 - 2017 update, did say "Enter credentials to connect to Server" (which was the name of the computer I was trying to connect to). However, the "User" name was NOT the User name I use when logging into the Server,
it was my Microsoft Exchange account log in - which is an email address, and the password for that account.

So, it appears MS improved the pop up message, now they just need to clarify "User" !

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
