Windows 10: Windows 10 Enterprise Repair From DOS Prompt - Is It Possible

I have a Laptop that had W10 Enterprise installed. It is now in a loop that will not allow Windows to start. I have made a bootable USB with Windows 10. Used Rufus to make the USB and copied the July 2016 version of Windows 10 Enterprise. Have not been able to use the USB to successfully FIX the W10 installation. I have been able to get on the laptop with the command prompt.

I have run sfc /scannow which completes but gets the error
Windows resource protection could not start the repair service

Is it possible to repair the original installation? Any leads or directions would be greatly appreciated..

Enterprise to Ultimate isn't a downgrade. They're in different categories. As Shawn says, you'll need to do a clean install of 7 Ultimate in order to get the free upgrade to 10. Beware, though, because most of the copies of Windows 7 Ultimate out in
the wild are bogus, and you might not be able to activate because MS seems to be watching for it these days.

I'd contact your companies IT tech, if your not already that person, and let them sort it out. Is the version on your USB thumb drive, the same version (build) that's installed now? I do believe they need to match to be able to do a repair.

 

Yes they need to match. You need to know the version installed. Is it original, 1511 update, or the current 1607 update.

 

After a number of hours trying many combinations of thumbdrive or DVD versions of the Windows 10 version, I made the decision to purchase a 1 TB drive for the laptop and do a fresh install. I used the correct ISO on a DVD external USB drive and was able to get the W10 Enterprise OS loaded on the new drive. All other software was then reloaded and made operational This took about 6 hours in total. Which was half the time that I spent trying all the other methods.

1. Agreed that any attempt to recover must be the exact same OS Source as was originally used. In some cases the installation may have been updated. You HAVE to use the updated version. Keep records of the OS installed on your computers just in case.

2. Ensure that the BIOS is not secured to permit use of USB thumb drive or external USB DVD drive. Newer laptops are not equipped with CD/DVD readers. Thumb drives must be at least 8 GB

I've never had to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, if that's what your referring too, to install Windows 8 or 10. You will for Windows 7 or earlier, or another OS like Linux though. They don't have the code for secure boot.
