Windows 10: windows 10 error 0xc0000142 Game application failure

I have found only answers to Microsoft office in regards to this error, 0xc0000142. My son gets this when he tries to launch his game. It is a game within Steam. The game works on my pc. I took his external drive, and it has the game on it and it launches on my pc. I have a HP all-in-one, he has a cyber power pc. Both run windows 10. I have tried everything but restoring his pc. I am afraid he will lose stuff. I understand this is an old issue going back to 2014.

compatibility mode. Kindly follow the steps below:

• Right click on file (giving games application error 0xc0000142).
• Click on Properties.
