  1. Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

Upgrading a Windows 8.1 installation and it stuck at getting devices ready at 2%. No BSOD. Has to be specific to 8.1 as I have already installed 10 on a clean partition with no issues on this machine. All drivers up to date. Did try removing Avast. No wireless devices attached. Not really bothered but an upgrade would save a few hours. Tried it twice and it sticks in the same place "Getting devices ready 2%" A reboot restores previous OS.
There is a lot written about this error applying to Windows 8 and wireless devices in laptops....this is a huge desktop machine.

I suppose when it ran the compatibility checker, it showed no problems?

There was a time when Bluetooth devices caused problems. If you have any, you might try disabling them in the Bios.

I have not done an install over 8.1. The one time I tried, it said it could not with Media Center installed, so I stopped.

No log files left after the failed attempt?

  5. No log files that I could find and it kicked up no errors in the compatibility report. I know 10 works fine on the machine as a clean install but I'll keep testing and fooling around till I get it cured. I think this may be a big issue when 10 is RTM if we don't help them fix it.

I have finished the upgrade install and things went as expected. So I suppose I might try bring up some things to see if I can find something relevant.

The "Getting Devices Ready" phase comes just after a reboot. I don't know exactly what it is doing during the percentage numbers, but at 2%, possibly very important. Since I think the video comes around 28%, possibly it is looking at the hard drives or basic system devices. If you are using a USB flash drive as your install media, you might try removing it during the first reboot. Also, how my empty space is on your OS partition and the hard drive as a whole.

I suppose if it is allow you to continue the install, the compatibility check did not find anything. But there may be other logs, such as setupact.log or setuperr.log in some folder in the Panther directory or on the $Windows.~BT folder if you have one. I don't suppose you would have an Srttrail.txt file if the compatibility check found no problems.

Have you ever had any problems with devices on that system when you installed 8 or 8.1? All I can suggest here is to disable whatever you can in the bios. Without something to point at the problem, all you can do is troubleshoot the best you can.

I will tell you, I first installed on a clean hard drive which had been used previously. After experiencing problems with Dual boot Recovery situations, I changed that drive for a new one and the problem went away. If you could image your install and change hard drives, it might be something to try. And along those lines, do you have any imaging software installed other than the Windows version?

  8. Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018

I have already installed 10 on this machine as a clean install on another HD and that went just fine. I know if I wipe 8.1 away it will install but now as I am a Geek I want to know why this will not upgrade. Everything I have read points to a Wireless card which I do not have. There is 41 GB free on the SSD 8.1 is on. I also dual boot with 7 . This time it got as far as 22% and just hung with the HD light glowing. Does anyone know a way of removing all drivers at once? I tried to run the setup in safe mode as I have Safe MSI installed and it cannot run in safe mode.

I got exactly the same error (checker showed no problem, started downloading, then started copying of the system, and when restarted and setup drivers and config I received error message and my 8.1 had been restored.

I checked Panther directory and found this (setuperr.log):

Same here, have tried it at least three times to no avail. Installation gives a BSOD after second reboot at 32% of installation (6% of apps and drivers). It tries to resurrect the installation, fails, and rolls back to original OS, Windows 7 Ultimate, in my case. On return to W7 it gives the dreaded error code 0xc1900101-0x30018. Will be following this thread to see if any possible solution arises.

Edit: During one of my attempts, I unplugged the USB drive and the Wifi USB, this did not help unfortunately.

Hello, I'm having exactly same problem.

Windows 10 Error code 0xc1900101-0x30018 [IMG]

I'm updating from W8.1. I already tried unplugging the wifi antenna and all peripherals i have( It's a desktop PC). All same result. I don't want to do a clean install (I'm lazy).

I have no clue of what other device might be interfering.

I hope we all find the solution.

I got this error message. Then I disabled virus software and it installed fine. It's possible, though, that I just didn't give the setup routine enuf time to do its thing, as it takes a long time, and sometimes looks on the screen like nothing is happening.
