    Windows 10 exhibiting odd behavior.

Hi all, after an update a few weeks ago my Windows 10 installation started behaving oddly.

The taskbar and Start menu became transparent. This made it almost impossible to select any of the option on the left side of the menu, such as Power.

I made a video and the link is below.

The desktop flickered in unpredictable ways. Some screens, such as those belonging to any of the Settings functionality could not be dragged. These also flickered and at times became transparent to the point of disappearing. Hovering over the close button on the title bar did not cause it to turn red and in some cases, clicking it had no effect. At some times I was able to click it to close the window.

I tested with other apps, such as Photo Viewer which behaved the same way.

I have not installed any new software on this PC, other than the habitual MS Windows Updates.

I tried going back to a restore point; however, much to my dismay, this installation has no restore points which is odd because Windows Update usually creates a restore point when it updates the installation.

I managed to download and install the latest update as of today, October 27, 2020, but the issue persists.

I am open to the possibility that it might be a hardware problem, but would like to rule out any software issue because the issue here is not indicative of hardware failure but then again, anything is possible.

Any advice is welcomed. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Your time and assistance is appreciated. Saga

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Windows 10, odd behavior after restart

    Hi Chris,

This seems to be caused by a corrupt user profile. We suggest that you run the System File Checker. It
is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. To run the tool, follow these steps:

    • Click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run
      as administrator
. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    • At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
      sfc /scannow
You can also run the DISM or System Update Readiness tool. This will help you fix
Windows corruption errors caused by failed installation of Windows updates and service packs. To run the tool, refer to this

    link
    .

Once you're done running the tools, restart the computer and check.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested troubleshooting steps.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Launch the Store from your Start menu.
    • Click the user icon next to the search box.
    • Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
    • Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
    • When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
