Windows 10: Windows 10 - Factory Reset

Good Evening,


Trying to help a business-owner friend.

On August 15th she was advised that the business-computer wasn't 'starting correctly' and her Management Program (a front-end for MS SQL) was showing errors.

The support company attended the following day, tried various things, then must have attempted a 'Recovery' - leading to the

following -




As it was late, the staff were told to just leave it like that overnight.

In the morning, the support guys said that the screen was now blank, except for 'standard' items like the recycle bin - that Windows 10 had reset itself to Factory Default overnight !

To make things worse, when data was recovered, the only things 'trashed' were all the SQL database files and database backup files (- after re-installation of SQL Server, none of the databases would attach, due to corruption and loss of indexing)


1) Can this actually happen ? - that Windows 10 would do a factory reset without any prompt ?
2) Even if it went into the Factor Reset, surely a point would arise when User-input would have been required ? - even if only for a User-name ?

3) Has anyone else a similar experience ? - maybe after a Windows update ?


Note:

Event Viewer - in both the System Events and Applications there were about a dozen entries from May 13th 2017, then a gap until 16th August 2018.... very strange as I did some work on the business network in July and there was definitely a full Events log.

I can understand a new log starting with a re-install of Windows, but have never seen a 'split' log before.


Also the path to the SRTTrail.txt only led to an 'sos.wim' from May 10th 2018, with no text file in it.


I feel that some parts of the 'story' are missing - but comments and advice would be appreciated.

Thank you john for all of your help i decided to get the usb my computer came with and factory reset it i didnt have anything that personal or valueable so its ok thanks for the help though i appreciate it

• When you say that "reset my computer back to factory settings", are you referring that you have tried to perform rolling back to previous Operating System or performed Reset of Windows 10?
  
• Are you able to see Windows 10 logo when you switch on the computer?
