Windows 10: Windows 10 fails to update from 1909 to 20H2 with 0x800701B1- 0x2000A

Hi, I have been trying for multiple days and countless hours to update my computer to 20H2.

I have tried to update it using Windows Update which now doesn't give me the option anymore Error 0x800701B1.

I tried to do it using the Assistant without any success Error 0x800701B1.

I tried using the official ISO and this time it gave me this message :

0x800701B1- 0x2000A
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during PREPARE_FIRST_BOOT operation.


I used to get errors while trying to update different things from Windows Update while installing KB4592449 and KB4586878.

I fixed those by downloading the packages from the catalogue.

Windows Update was also unable to update Microsoft Edge to the newer version, no matter what, so I installed it by myself.

I also had a different error code while trying to update Windows, which seemed to be fixed when I removed my external hard drive.

I've also tried everything I could find from similar issues like the DISM commands and SFC scan.


If anybody could give me some help to fix this problem, it'd really help me, I've already wasted so much time trying to fix it by myself...

[SOLVED] Windows 10 fails to update from 1803 to 1903 with 0x800701B1- 0x2000A

Hi all,

I'm soo angry - there is no way i can stop updates , and PC automatically reboots every second night and fails to install 1903 with :

0x800701B1- 0x2000A

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during PREPARE_FIRST_BOOT operation.

I have tried :

1. Troubleshooter

Says i only have an option of pending updates (yes, 1903 pending... Guess what happens if i pick it - installl, reboot, uninstall, reboot)

2. Using standard Windows update option - no help

3. Using USB with instalation media - same result

4. running this from both Safe and normal modes:

The most sad point in all this situation that makes me really cry aloud - i can't really disable the update to 1903 ! It just kicks in automatically rebooting my mahcine , which has to be online 24 hours doing things.

If theres any guru who could tell me which logs to post from where , and who can try to help me on this - i would be very thankful (And looking at amount of similat questions online i think theres lots of people experiencing same
issue)

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
