I am upgrading my Dell tablet with a larger drive. I have cloned the old drive and the new one works perfectly. However when I put the old drive into a caddy It shows in disk manager as disk 2, but will not initialize nor can I format it.I get the error message windows 10 fatal device hardware error. hi ive got a WD elements hardrive im trying to get into and it keeps coming up with this

( location is not available)

F:/ is not accessable

the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error

ive tryed the troubleshooting suggestion but it didnt work

ive got my computer backed up on it so i really need the info

pls help

 

Fatal Error

I've been trying to format my system but right after it finishes formatting I get a Fatal Error during the Windows installation process. That Fatal Error is a Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). I know that it's because of my hard drives, but how do I fix this issue? I have 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA II Hard Drives in RAID 0. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. *Smile

- check the status if the drive as suggested there and with any tool such as Crystal Diskinfo and Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) is especially good.

Were you moving (dangerous to an external drive as things can..er.. go wrong..) or copying the data?

I hope you have a full backup for your laptop - so here's another plug for routine and regular disk imaging (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free- paid) plus large enough external storage for image files.

If so, recovery should be painless even if you were moving the data. (Have you checked the source data to see if you actually lost any?)
