Windows 10: Windows 10 Feature Update Downloaded status reverted to No

You may have noticed that after synchronizing updates released on patch Tuesday (October 13, 2020), Windows 10 Feature Updates for versions 1903 and 2004 that were previously downloaded, now show a status of Downloaded = No under the All Windows 10 Updates node. The content for these Windows 10 Feature Updates were revised to address this security issue. As a result of this content revision, any previously downloaded feature updates will need to be downloaded again.

NOTE: The existing feature updates for Windows 10, versions 1809 and 1909 were not revised. New feature updates for these versions that supersede the previous versions were published that contain the security fix. Because the creation/release date for these new feature updates uses the same date/time as the previous versions, in some environments the superseded feature updates are expired immediately.

If you used an automatic deployment rule or servicing plan to previously deploy the feature update, it will be downloaded again at the next scheduled evaluation. If you manually deployed the feature update, you will need to manually download it again.

If devices have previously downloaded the feature update content to their local cache but havenât installed the feature update, the feature update content will be downloaded again to the local cache once the distribution points are updated.

Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

did you try it out? windows 8 is a complete fuck up and even microsoft knew it. so they left it as is and made windows 8.1... i suggest first going up to windows 8.1..

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."

Windows 10 forced download

To stop the download, uninstall the KB3035583 update (under "Control Panel > Windows Update > Installed Updates").

To get rid of the C:\$Windows.~BT folder:

Right-click on your C: drive.

Select "Properties".

Click on [ Disk Cleanup ]

After the initial scan: If you have a [ Clean up system files ] button, click it and wait for the second scan to finish.

Scroll down the list and look for "Temporary Windows installation files" (its size should be in the gigabytes range); check the box.

Click on [ OK ] to start the clean-up.

^This, then reboot and go to manually update windows. Find KB3035583 in the list of available updates, right-click and "Hide this update" so it doesn't get installed again next go around.

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

Some Windows 10 editions let you defer upgrades to your PC. When you defer upgrades, new Windows features won’t be downloaded or installed for several months. Deferring upgrades doesn’t affect security updates. Note that deferring upgrades will prevent you from getting the latest Windows features as soon as they’re available.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
