Windows 10: Windows 10 File Explorer search issues

Having issues with file search on both my desktop and laptop. the laptop is new and the desktop was just upgraded to windows 10, so I'm not super familiar with Windows 10 just yet, I had been using windows 7 with no issues with this scenario. The desktop is Windows 10 pro, version 20h2. The laptop is Windows 10 home version 1909.

The search functionality itself works fine, I put in my criteria in the search box in file explorer and I'm able to open the files that are in the results. If I save that search, then open the saved search in another window I get the same results, but when I try to open a file in the results of the saved search I get the message "the directory name is invalid". searching the internet for this issue doesn't return any relevant results

Anyone else having the same issue?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

File Explorer Search Not Working


I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

• What is the Windows 10 Version and Build installed? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)
  
• Have you tried restarting your computer?
  
• Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

Method 1:
Restore File Explorer to default.

1. Open File Explorer and click on
   View tab from the top.
   
2. Click the arrow below
   Options and select Change folder and search options.
   
3. Under General tab, click on
   Restore Defaults.
   
4. Click Ok and relaunch File Explorer.
