    Finding duplicate files

    Hey hey,

During the years the backups have just accumulated in random places, essentially, and I would like to clean up. Is there a program that can search for duplicate files? And by that I mean identical files. I tried dupeGuru, but that somehow found ... all files to be identical I guess? Like how a bunch of jpg's with different names, sizes and locations being marked 100% identical, or how a bunch of xls-files with completely different everything also were 100% matches with each other. I don't need any fancy functions, just a list of the files that share the name and filesize and created/last write dates.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

File duplicating issue with File History, Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand you concern and how annoying it could be. However, we would need some more information regarding the issue.

    1. Was there any major change on your system prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?
    2. Which build of Windows 10 are you currently on? You can refer to Which Windows operating system
      am I running?

In the meantime, we would suggest you to follow the methods mentioned below and check if it resolves the issue.

Method 1: Re-configure File history set up.

    1. Open Control Panel by searching for it in search bar.
    2. Click on System and Security >
      File History
      > Turn Off.
    3. Then go to Settings > Update & Security >
Backup (on the left pane) > More options >
      Stop using this drive
      .
    4. Delete the File History folder in your drive.
    5. Then try to set up File History again and check.

Method 2: Check for Windows Updates.

    Please refer
    Update Windows 10
and check if there are any updates pending. If yes, try updating Windows.

Method 3: Create new user account (If the issue still persists, it might be because of user profile corruption).

    Please refer to
Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
and try creating new user account and check.

    Regards,
