Windows 10: Windows 10 File Sharing

Hi,

I have two PCs at home and have enabled file sharing between them which was working fine until two days ago when I installed the Windows 10 version 2004 update on each of them.


Now my two PCs can't see each other and I can't access files on either PC from the other one. I have spent a whole day trying everything that I can find on the internet to solve this and have not been able to find a solution.

I have ensured that the Private network settings on each PC have network discovery switched on and file and printer sharing switched on. I have also ensured that the password protected sharing is switched off.


When I open File Explorer and select network on each PC they only show themselves, the other PC is not visible.

The Quick Access screen has details of previous files I've worked on. On my main PC it can access one file on my second PC that is visible on the quick access screen the only one listed that sits on my second PC. On my second PC there are several files on the quick access screen that sit on my main PC but it cannot access any of them, I get a message saying that the files cannot be opened.


This should be such an easy thing to do and it was working ok until the latest update.


Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

• Have you made any changes on your PC?
• Did you perform any Windows update recently?
• Are you connected to Domain network?

Set Up File Sharing on a Windows 10 PC

Hi Brink great tutorial as usual.

I could not help but notice in step 1 you say to enable " Function Discovery Resource Publication "

In most of the posts I have read on Ten Forums they also suggest to enable " Function Discovery Provider Host "

Are you suggesting that Function Discovery Provider Host is not necessary.
