Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot

I downloaded this program tonight. Will post a screen capture tomorrow.

My Device Manager says "Standard SATA AHCI Controller."

Am I trying to post my attachment wrong? Right after I posted it the first time I was able to see it, but now I see the same message you do. Am reposting here.

It scares me to mess with the HD. I always seem to know enough to get into trouble, but never quite enough to get myself out of trouble.

Soon after I posted my last message my computer froze up again. I had FireFox open, and Open Office working in my large document. I have spent several hours this evening breaking down that large document even more into several smaller documents. Does the processor effect the ability of the computer to multi-task? I normally have open at the same time FF, Open Office, Notepad, Fire Ftp, and sometimes a photo editing program. Perhaps it is too much for this computer to handle?

I forgot to answer this question yesterday. I use Norton Antivirus, and yes I have run a full scan. Nothing found. I also use Piroform CCleaner. Don't know if Malwarebytes is any better or about the same. Have used Malwarebytes in the past.

For the SATA Controllers looks like you did not download and install the Storage drivers i showed you, how many Standard SATA AHCI Controllers were there listed ? Could of posted screen shot like you did for Network Adapters.

Alright with the Network Adapters they are both Realtek, if you right click each of them and select properties and go to driver tab you can then check the version and compare it to ASUS Site to know if you have the latest. Although this is not causing you your issues with freezing, it would cause Network issues.

I was trying at first to make sure that all system drivers that are important were up to date, as out of date driver can cause issues and even corrupted drivers. We wanted to see if it happened in safe mode to determine if software drivers or other running processes were causing this and that has not gone well with you trying.

I gave you link to check for heat related issues which is another cause of freezing. It is always good to keep the inside of the PC clean from dust and dirt which when built up on fans, heatsink and other parts inside can cause overheating and even if fans are not functioning.

Hardware can be another cause, video card, hard drive, power supply and RAM are some usual ones. We would then have to do tests for them.

Malware and viruses can cause this even if one Anti-Virus said you were clean does not always mean you are, Malwarebytes is good for a scan.
Also with Malwarebytes run a scan with Malicious Removal tool within Windows. MRT.EXE at the run command.

I suggested an inplace repair upgrade and a clean install these are the last alternatives for me because sometimes if it's a hardware issue, conflicting drivers or a software and you put same drivers, software and hardware back the problems may most likely reoccur, so you never find out.

Clean install or inplace upgrade is not going to ruin your hard drive as long as it is not going bad already, that would be another hardware test to try. Besides we are here to guide and help you with it, so do not be scared this is how you learn.

Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot

I am going through this list and downloading what I can. Several come up as already installed. Others are installing but I don't understand why when HP Assistant says that everything is "up to date"!

Second, the chipset drivers do not download. There are only two listed and both of them showed error messages when I tried to download them. The first one gave me the following error message,

Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot [IMG]

The second chipset said that it is "not supported on this platform." If HP cannot post the correct drivers for the computer they list them with then where do I find the proper drivers?

Here is an updated screenprint after the downloads today.

Also, the audio drivers did not download either. There were 2 listed and both said they were not compatible with my computer. Where do I find audio drivers? And why isn't HP Assistant taking care of these things?

Maybe they are already updated, i can download both Chipset and the Intel Management Engine i select download only not use the HP Assistant. How are you doing it ? If you try to install them and already have that version or newer version it will tell you when you install them.

If look in Device Manager under System Devices and expand it look for Intel Management Engine Interface, right click select Properties and the Driver Tab will tell you the version and date, match it to HP site then you have the newest or one Windows 10 updated.
Chipset will be in same part of Device Manager under System Devices Intel Chipset series with a number in between, you can do the same by right clicking and checking the driver version should be a few of these listed this way under System Devices.

Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot

Some of the voltages are a bit low at the top, but the all temps seem fine. Was this at idle only, doing nothing on PC ?

Realtek is there so it should be fine for the audio. I see you did not install the SATA controller drivers under Driver Storage on HP. I pointed them out on my post with the picture from HP support site.

Whatever you download in drivers you should save to an external device so have them in case you need to reinstall windows 10 again.

I went back to the HP website and attempted to install the chipset by selecting "download only" this time. The error message comes up after attempting to install.

Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot [IMG]

The first chipset is already on my computer according to the Details on the properties tab. It is the second chipset that appears not installed. The version on my computer appears older than the update on the HP website.

Looking at the Events tab on the chipset properties there are timestamps of March 7 when an install was requested, and there is a box that says "Information," Inside the box says,

I did go through every one of those drivers and attempt to install them. However, to show you what happens I tried this one again. The first time I went through these drivers I did select "HP Assistant" but this time I have selected "Download Only."

The file downloads to my computer. When I click the file to install I am asked if I want to overwrite the files because the same files are already on my computer. I have selected "Yes to all" each time just in case something was wrong the first time. Each time the application attempts to install and then I receive the following error message:

Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot

Then there must be some differences under that HP model because it is listed under your site, i do see it different in Device Manager for Intel Management Engine Interface which is not a chipset driver. Not sure on this, but would leave alone on these then. This message was on the Intel Management or Intel Chipset ? Try the first Driver Storage listed Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for your SATA AHCI Controller driver.

Can always select update driver after right clicking the device in Device manager and let it " Search automatically for updated driver software " to see if it finds one or it will tell you the best one is installed. This is a safe way.

Telling you that it is overwriting it, it is already there as said, do not bother. Repeat of your last post with Intel Management engine. Let me know about SATA AHCI driver goes. Otherwise let it search automatically online as described just before on my last post.

Need to go beyond this then and solve your existing issues.Which may have to do with Power Supply and i do say may i am not positive on this, but saw some low voltage from HWMonitor you posted.

We can try an inplace repair ugrade which will not affect much, as said it may or may not solve this issue.
