Windows 10: Windows 10 freezes up and I have to reboot

Well, tonight I have FF open, playing music and Open Office all at the same time. I clicked to save my Open Office file and right after it saved then my pc froze up and the music was stuck like a broken record. Had to reboot after unplugging the pc to reset. Perhaps, the Open Office has nothing at all to do with the problem?

Today I downloaded some malware program from Microsoft.com. Ran it and it said that all was fine. I reinstalled the Malwarebytes, ran it, and it said that all was fine.

Maybe the freezing has something to do with some of these drivers that are supposed to be automatically updating but are not and will not let me do them manually either?

Or perhaps it is time to reinstall Windows 10?

I have an appointment a few states away this week and will be traveling for a few days so I will not be able to do anything with my computer while I am away. I just wonder if I should attempt tonight or tomorrow to reinstall Windows 10? What do you think?

If I reinstall Windows 10 then what is the best way to do that? I created a Windows 10 restore disc but then if the problem existed when I created the restore disc then what? Or what if it really is a hardware issue?

If you do try this backup important files you have before and have copies of third party software in case of.
Seems strange why listed drivers are possibly not compatible with your system but are listed there, may want to try contacting HP or if there is a way of inputting a serial number instead of model. Maybe some differences in these models. All in all same thing is happening.

 

I just tried it again and the same thing happened as with the others. I have already attempted to download everything on that HP driver page. And when I go into Device Manager and select to search automatically for the driver everything comes back saying that it is already up to date.

 

Only one that puzzles me is why SATA AHCI Controller is using only standard, maybe that is way it is suppose to be, otherwise leave well enough alone on the rest from what i saw already. Can always let them check automatically as described to lessen your worries for now

 

Try inplace upgrade first see if it helps. We can go from there.

Intent on keeping Windows 10, think later of a clean install, does better for some. Then some use a system image as a backup.

 

Well, I come and go a lot on the computer. I had not been on the computer very long when I screen printed that but I leave my computer on all the time. I just put it to sleep when I am away very long. I have been on the computer for more than hour now. Here is another screen print.

 

What can I do about the power supply? Can I replace it?

I am wondering if I should return this computer.

 

I do not understand what a system image is. How is it different than a restore disc, or a system backup?

 

It says external which i never heard of until you, most power supplies are internal, so have to question HP on that if under warranty. To me 65w is very little unless i missed something there, but it is what i thought i saw.

 

Marked are low should be at the values of the number to it's left, if i am completely correct for HWMonitor.
Can try another program, as these software are never exact.

 

I don't understand it either. One of the reasons I came here before phoning HP is because I phoned them last year about the laptop I bought and the representative did not speak English hardly at all. I spent hours trying to understand the person. I asked for an English speaking person and they would not allow me to speak to someone who spoke my language. I had such a terrible time trying to communicate.

I am wondering though if no matter what I do that the power supply may be a continuous issue. If I could replace it and resolve the freezing then all would be great for me.

 

Again it is an educated guess, not written in stone yet just from what i saw and can be causes of this issue. Do not have PC infront of me which makes it hard and online is not going to give me a diagram of it internally.
Terrible i never dealt with HP never bought there brands. Sure dialed in America and at working hours.

Yes, these programs are a good reference, true way would be with a multimeter or probe. I never had to do this yet myself and without knowing actual part and way it is made. Wow, i can not even find there support number they have me going in circles on there page even to try to find it. Easy with companies like ASUS.

If Power supply was that bad it would be shutting down the PC at times
