Windows 10: Windows 10 Hard disk defragmentation problem !

Hello,

I have a problem with the hard disk defragmentation in windows 10. After optimizing the C partition, it says 3% fragmented, not 0%, which I assume not to be normal. I tried again, but it still showed 3%. I searched the problem on google, and here's what I tried :

1. I tried opening command line as administrator and entering the following command : chkdsk /r

After that I typed Y, because it was asking me if I want the hard to be checked when I restart my pc, and I restarted it. It showed 100% repaired and I started the defrag again : still 3%

2. I ran through the command line as administrator this one :

Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

After the operation has completed successfully, I ran : sfc /scannow

It said there were found some corrupt files and they got repaired. I started the defrag and again : 3%.

Before the first defrag, I forgot to mention that it was 9% fragmented, so it defragmented it, but not completely. I know that it should appear 0%..

I don't know what to do, please help

To defragment your hard disk:

1. Click the Start button. In the search box, type Disk Defragmenter, and then in the list of results, click Disk Defragmenter.

2. Select the disk you want to defragment.

3. Click Analyze disk to determine if the disk needs to be defragmented or not.

4. If fragmentation is above 10%, you should defragment the disk.

5. Click Defragment disk, in order to defragment the disk.

(The above method is based on Disk Defragmenter tool for Windows 8)

Disk Defragmenter runs but when finished it now shows 14% fragmented.

You can ignore the message if you are not facing any performance related issue
after the process is done. It might be due to some error in the reporting. Then it won’t be an issue to worry about. If that is not the case, and you are still facing performance related issues, I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it
helps.

Step 1: Run a Disc Check on the computer.

You can perform a check disk to spot any error in your hard disk. To do so, right- click on the start button>select command prompt (admin)> type “chkdsk” and press enter.

This will display the exact errors occurring in your hard drive. Restart the computer and try Step 2.

Step 2: Perform a Disk Cleanup on your computer.

Now, Run Disk Defragmentation and check if the issue persists.

We have a couple of workarounds for defragmentation issues, try the following:



Method 1: Check your hard disk for errors in Windows 10.

• Press Windows key+X.
• Select Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the window that opens enter chkdsk /f.
  

Method 2:
Run System File Checker (SFC).

Method 3: Check if Disk Defragmenter service is running properly.

This service is required for performing disk defragmentation, and if it’s disable, you won’t be able to run a defragmentation tool.

• Search for services.msc.
• Make sure that Disk Defragmenter service is set to
  manual.
• Also, make sure that following services are set to Automatic:
  
  Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
  
  DCOM Server Process Launcher.
  
  RPC Endpoint Mapper.
