I think it's a plain and simple answer. Considering Amazon is selling both copies for a difference of $3, I would just go with the Pro edition. That way you get the features no matter what with little to no money lost.

    Hi folks
Another feature PRO is good for is you can run multiple languages / interfaces --. I think HOME is restricted to the language edition you paid for . There are a few other features primarily networking etc that a basic home user doesn't usually use. But as previous poster said as difference is only 3 USD why not go for it !!! will be cheaper than an upgrade I'm sure.

    Cheers

This is not the case. You can install any Home Language edition you like, and have multiple languages. There is a Single Language version but restricts you to one language of your choice (except afaik chinese which is a separate edition to comply with Chinese regulations).

Unfortunately, we can only tell you the differences. You'll need to decide which version is your best fit based on your needs. If Home ends up being a perfect fit, don't feel that you NEED to get Pro.

It should be noted that there are no significant performance differences between any of the Windows 10 editions. Any differences would be lost in the noise of measurement error.

The Pro edition has many potentially valuable features. Whether they will be of use to you is a question only you can answer. For some individuals and organizations the lack of specific features in the home edition will be a deal breaker. For others these same features will be of no importance.

    One example:
Home editions lack the ability to join an active directory domain. In a large organization a computer that can't do that isn't of much use. A domain has huge benefits in a large network of hundreds or thousands of computers, but for a typical home user it is a big and expensive complication that provides no real benefits.

FWIW, the two main features I cared about (and ultimately were my reasons for going with Windows 10 Pro) were Bitlocker drive encryption & Hyper-V virtualization. Ofcourse there are probably 3rd-party options that accomplish the same thing for Win10 Home users -- such as VeraCrypt and VMWare. I just preferred to have native applications.

I use my laptop on the go often and worrying about what a would-be thief would do with my information is the least of my concerns with Bitlocker; thus, to me it was worth it. Although as a regular Mac user, I find it disheartening that Microsoft makes their users pay for such comfort since Apple has offered FileVault encryption at no extra charge for a while now. *Huh

Yeah those are good points. Sadly, they don't really serve any purpose in my case. I guess if I get a new laptop i might go with pro so i can use bitlocker, or if i should get my own corporation some day i will problably go with pro on the office computers as well, but as for my own personal computer im going to go with windows home.

Just a side question, is it possible to downgrade from pro to home without formatting your ssd and starting all over again?

It is allegedly possible by doing a regedit to change some registry entries from professional to Home, then doing a repair upgrade with Home iso.

Did a search and found this guide and it works.

Will give it some time and see if the home version is better.

P.S do I need to get a new key or is the key converted with the regedit fix?

It says that windows is still activated.

PC must have previously been activated with Home. If you were activated with PRO, it makes no sense to downgrade.

It hasn't been activated with home previously, but it still says that windows is activated and the key works.

If pc originally came with windows 8 preinstalled, key will be bios embedded in most cases.
