Windows 10: Windows 10 Image Backup Log Error Message

When I create a disc image file with windows 10, I now get a folder "Logs" with my backup that I did not get with Windows 7. In it is a Notepad text file titled "Backup_Error-xx-yy-zzzz_ aa-bb-cc", where xx, yy, and zzzz are the day, month, and year of the backup, and aa, bb, and cc are numeric values whose meaning I cannot identify. There is nothing in the text file when opened. What is this and what is it telling me? The image backup appears to successfully complete. This occurs on both of my Windows 10 computers.

WINDOWS 10 BUG - SYSTEM IMAGE

Windows 10 v1511 System Image fails to QNAP NAS. Also fails to Hitachi TOURO external hard drive, which was tried on all USB ports, including USB 3.0 and 2.0.

Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 worked!

Windows 10 System Image successfully saves the SYSTEM EFI partition to the NAS and External drives, but fails / generates error message when writing the Windows C: partition.

Errors from log files include...

Backup of volume \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\ has failed. The mounted backup volume is inaccessible. Please retry the operation.

4 Log files...

Backup of volume \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\ has failed. The specified backup disk cannot be found.

Despite the log file error messages the QNAP NAS and External drives are accessible at all times from Windows 10 File Explorer and other sync software such as SyncBack. The problem is Windows 10 System Image.

Other users have reported problems with Windows 10 System Image to large external hard drives which have been fixed by reformatting drive.

It should not matter the drive size or the allocation unit size.

Windows 10 System Image should just work with any drive that works with the Windows OS.

Frustrating, frustrating!!!

 

Windows 10 backup not working

I'm trying to use Windows 10's backup to backup to my WD NAS. While looking for a way to set times for automatic backup, I cliked on "See Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the backup page and got this error message. I'm logged in as admin. How do I fix
this?

 

Hello, I can't find a way to find any reference to that. What I can tell you is that we generally recommend a 3rd party program for creating disk images, such as Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium - which offers some other useful facilities- and external storage.

These are
a. more flexible
b. more reliable (every so often people have problems with Win 10 system imaging)
c. far more feature rich
d. allow you to back up other partitions and offer differential/incremental imaging
