    Windows 10 Insider Program Survey

It is like the other questions that were not very well thought out. By the 10th question, I stopped doing the survey, because they purposely made it so that it was weighted in the favor for keeping the insider program running.

Microsoft keeps shifting their resources from other projects, into the Server 2016 and Redstone projects. That is because both are supposed to come out at the same time. Also Microsoft is gambling that they can get the Enterprise market to buy in on the whole package of Surface, Phone, Windows 10, Office 2016/365, Server 2016.

It is a huge risk that they are taking. Their cost per stock share took a bad nosedive before 10 came out. Then it jumped back up at the announcement of the Surface Pro 4.

Microsoft's stock is starting to regain from tanking until August this year. They just paid out a dividen in November.

  2. You are a contrarian. It doesn't matter what anybody says, you feel the need to contradict. The Linux community has a treat in store.

+1.. But heck.. if someone wants to use Linux I say, go for it. The key thing is testing it out in a VM or dual boot to make sure it's what you want. And the distribution I recommend is Mint. It's very similar to Win7 and easy to get used to.

And as for their forums.. well let's put it this way.. they're not as friendly as we are and they don't have cookies like we do. *Wink

Actually, the Mint dvd is a live dvd, so it is even easier trying it that way than making a vm or partition. I find the Linux groups to be more buisinesslike than unfriendly, although there are occasional potshots at Windows.

That is your chance to tell MS how you feel about the program, positive or negative. Plus you got a chance to win a surface. *Smile

Umm, no. Did you take the survey?

I have designed surveys for major corporations and this MS survey is self-serving and direction-driven - there is no place for true critique.

yes I did. There is a box where you can say anything you want. It's asking for a suggestion or something to that effect, but I guess you can write anything you want.
Or simply "Strongly Disagree" on each item if that's how you feel.
    Did you take it?

Good. I just took this one because I got the time to do it and the "Surface" bait really worked for everyone who took it. *Smile

I did manage to finish the survey. When it comes to winning contests I'm not very lucky so you don't have to worry about me winning. ☺

  11. Of course its self-serving. The survey states that. You can write a true critique anytime you want and submit it directly to Microsoft.

I used to be a bow to Microsoft for a very long time. Hated the issues with Dos 4.0 and Win ME. No problems with any others. Griped when they started the Ribbon crap, but dealt with it.

I played around with Linux off and on for the past 14 years, but held out until it was a lot more stable. It was 8 that started the move towards 100% Linux in the home. When 10586 came out and I spent more time fixing Microsoft's mistakes. That is when I finally threw in the towel.

When you have to spend three days fixing something that Microsoft screwed up from one of their patches. It is time to move on. I have a family and a life. If an OS is talking control. The end user should never have to place family last.

Incorrect. Linux and BSD have the largest market share in the server market. The laptop and desktop is finally starting to take off. Especially with a lot of people who are getting upset of the mob style tactics, in how Microsoft is trying to push the upgrade on the end users.

If someone wants to stay with 7 or 8.1. Same with Office 2010 or 2013. They should not be held by gun point and have 10 forced on them. There are a lot of machines out there that cannot run 10, that are getting forced for the user to upgrade.

Now you are seeing the same issues with the Surface 4, as you do with the Surface 3 for hardware issues. Microsoft is trying to hold on their largest market, which is Enterprise. Home and student users are a very small number.

Also those numbers that Microsoft keeps publishing are downloads, but they do not subtract those installs that have been deleted, or the user has changed OS or Hardware platforms, to move away from Windows all together.

I pulled 10 off of my wife's laptop and installed Linux Mint 17.3 on it. No complaints. She is very computer savy and has had no issues yet. All that she does is browse the web and send emails. If we want to play video games, that is what our Fire TV box is for.

It depends on what forums you are going to. Brink has made these forums very user friendly. I would rather sell the experience and help from here, then point them to dsl or BC, where the members love to Castrate and Ostracize people. Same with the Comcast and ATT forums.

We all at this point for a lot of us like myself, feel like we are doing nothing but Beta Testing the OS for the Enterprise market at this point.

10 does do a lot of fixing problems on its on, I can give that much to Microsoft. The issue that they need to fix, is to move away from this whole Legacy way of building Windows and Server.

If we argue about Distro's like car buffs argue about cars. We just end up chasing our tails.

I have had a couple of users come on here, that have had Samba or FreeNAS issues and have helped them. That is because I support both ends of the spectrum.

We now have to look at this as that people are wanting to start playing with Linux, because you are starting to hear about it in tv and movies more. The biggest show that is Pro-Linux is Big Bang Theory.

As for the topic at hand about the survey. It is a royal mess for whoever drafted it and does not understand that Surveys are supposed to flow like a flow chart.

The enticement on this is tgat they are dangling a prize, like a Carrot on a stick, to force people to finish it.

It comes down to the whole reason for the survey is to keep the Insider program alive. Because it is a very valuable resource that a couple of employees for Microsoft that said let's do this and be the new Pirates of computing, know and understand that there are thousands of workers jobs on the line, if 10, Office 2016, Server 2016 fails, just like the 8800 that got let go from the Lumina division.

I do not want or need a Surface. I already have a laptop, my phone and tablet.

You do not need a survey to tell someone how you feel about a product. The survey is too long and you have no out when you get to the part in the beginning, that you only have one way through the gate.

Whoever wrote it, should have realized that if more then 60% of the answers are no. The survey should end and take you to the exit and just record it as incomplete and mark you off as present but no vote. That was and still is my whole gripe from the beginning of this topic.

The best way to provide feedback on 10 is via the feedback app. I use it all the time to post my feedback and check out others feedback. The survey is nice but it's so generic it's useless for some members.
