Windows 10: Windows 10 Installation on MacBook Pro locks up and fails

I've been having trouble installing Windows 10 Pro on my 2017 MacBook Pro running MacOS Catalina. I follow the Boot Camp Assistant instructions precisely, leaving aside 200 GB space for the Windows partition. Each time it boots up to the Windows partition and I get the Windows setup screen to select the version, the Language, etc. It invariably locks up during these first few setup screens, forcing the computer to reboot and me to undo the partition and start all over.

I've tried this process 3-4 times each time with the same result.

I even replaced and downloaded the Windows 10 iso file from the Microsoft website just in case the file was corrupted the first time - still no luck.

My son was able to finish the installation on his MacBook which is almost exactly the same as mine, and using the same Windows 10 iso

I would appreciate getting some hints as to what might be going wrong and how to get past this.

Windows on Macbook Pro using Bootcamp

You need support software (drivers) installed with Boot Camp to use Windows 10. This software is automatically downloaded when you use Boot Camp Assistant. Boot Camp supports 64-bit versions of Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro when used with a supported
Mac. Here are the list that supports Windows 10:

• MacBook Pro (2012 and later)
• MacBook Air (2012 and later)
• MacBook (2015 and later)
• iMac Pro (2017)iMac (2012 and later)
• Mac mini (2012 and later)
• Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
• Mac Pro (Late 2013)

Apple Could Discontinue 17-inch MacBook Pro

They will alienate a big part of their installed base if they do that. Many professionals loyally plunk down big numbers for Mac Pros and Macbook pros. It will engender tremendous ill will. The good news is, that might be the incentive for competitors to step up and develop equivalent NON WINDOWS products. The pros will not run Pro Tools on Windows.

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time
