    Windows 10 issues

Hello- I have used Microsoft Windows as my OS since 1992. Everything about Windows has largely changed for the worse since Windows 10 came out. Here is a list:

-File History failing to work on schedule or missing folder backups without warning; customer service help suggestion involving a ridiculous series of relatively complex tasks.

-Forced updates without warning taking forever to load and interrupting vital work with no opportunity to plan; some of those updates being forced even during hours specifically scheduled to not be interfered with.

-Post-update performance issues that reduce productivity and that severely interfere with plans. The latest update interrupted a full backup, and it took me 90 minutes to boot my computer and open and print one Word document. This is absurd and absolutely unacceptable, especially without any warning. It's MY computer, it's MY work, why do I have to give up almost TWO HOURS of MY TIME for a poorly designed update that causes system failures? UNACCEPTABLE.

-Updates that cause these kinds of issues are not even listed in the update history some of the time, and it seems that they cannot be uninstalled as a result. How can one uninstall a flawed update if one can't even find it in the list?

-Drivers get knocked out by some of the forced updates rendering peripheral devices useless and forcing manual updating of drivers, a major pain and another huge time suck. Do you employ software professionals who know anything at all about anything?

-It seems like there has been a recent onslaught of a lot of these issues causing ridiculous inoperability-- total browser dysfunction and crashing, spinning wheel of death, lags, programs (even Microsoft programs!) not responding. It has gotten worse recently, not better. It's especially ironic that even Microsoft software products are negatively affected.

I am in the middle of a gigantic project involving many different tasks and saved files, but as soon as I complete this work cycle I am forever getting rid of Windows and never looking back. The simple fact is that an *operating system* for a computer ought to be robust, reliable, streamlined, efficient and consistent-- it ought to run in the background as the platform from which all of the other functionality of the computer runs smoothly. Windows 10 is the final nail in the Microsoft coffin and what was once a reliable, user-driven, customizable, easily repaired platform (for the most part) has become a total annoyance and inconvenience for people who utterly rely on their computers to get vital tasks done quickly. Too many bells and whistles that don't even work, too much tweaking, almost entirely eliminated user control which was always one of the huge selling points of Windows over Mac, etc.

I have no idea how it is even possible to force an update on all Windows 10 users that renders something as simple as all web browsers or even MS Word absolutely unusable. Who are your software engineers? How do you even test your own updates prior to release? Utterly unacceptable for anyone who is on a work deadline, in the middle of an important set of tasks or simply expecting the very basic functionality of their hardware.

Negative five stars. Get real. Windows 10 and the entire customer service structure is a nightmare. Note also how, every time one of the flawed updates gets pushed, the Microsoft support people always try to walk people through an incredibly cumbersome labyrinth of completely ineffective "solutions," rather than just saying, yes, the recent update is causing these problems, just uninstall it and we'll get a new one out. It's like the "good old days" of internet customer service: "have you tried unplugging the modem, waiting ten seconds, and plugging it back in?" Ridiculous, especially for those of us who already know how to troubleshoot all kinds of issues. Just get real and test your own updates and alert the users of Windows 10 to the issues.

Anyway, it will soon be irrelevant to me, since I am dumping Windows and going with a different OS, forever.

    most sincerely,

    a formerly loyal Windows user

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP
