  2. My PC fails to install windows update (KB4041676 / KB4051613)

    Windows Update (KB4054517) fails.

I have tried every proposed solution to this problem. Windows updates are installing all around (KB4054517).

However, (KB4054517) just keeps failing. Microsoft should take their head out of their you know what and create a (KB4054517) update that works. How can and why does Microsoft keep ignoring this particular problem for so long?

    KB4054517

Same here. History issue for KB4056892 and KB4054517 (for my old secondary AMD Desktop, newer AMD desktop and Surface Book work fine including all current updates):

    1) 3. January 2018: All updates were installed properly.

    2) 4. January 2018: KB4056892 - like for so many other users with older AMD processors that hotfix killed my system into an unbootable state. All windows restore attempts failed. Had to completely reinstall Win10 (via MS Media Creation tool).

3.) 10. January 2018: After reinstalling Windows 10, KB4056892 killed my system again. Despite the issue being known by now, microsoft support hotline keeps users telling to reinstall windows. Officially MS stated days ago, that the buggy update was withdrawn,
but it's still in Windows Update and keeps killing machines.

4.) Reinstalled again. Tried to use wushowhide to block KB4056892. Didn't work, KB4056892 doesn't show up anymore, seems finally MS removed it. Created a windows restore usb stick. Installed all my programs again, a time-consuming process over several days.

-> 5.) KB4054517 keeps reinstalling in an endless loop. Totally drowns the systems performance. After several failed loops, I installed KB4054517 from a standalone installer, kills my system again into an unbootable state. Restored from usb stick. Lost all
    programs again.

6.) KB4054517 keeps looping. Blocked KB4054517 via wushowhide. KB4054517 keeps installing.

7.) 14. January 2018: 10th day of trying to just make the machine that microsoft's shoddy update killed just to get to work again as it used to. Seems at least after a final installation fail after blocking it, KB4054517 finally stopped reinstalling. Maybe
now I can reinstall my progs without having to do it again and again.

And, currently I keep finding multiple reports of other users with identical issues and Microsoft still dishes out silly standard advice. These hotfixes are buggy, MS developement needs to fix this ASAP. And MS support needs to acknowledge this issue an
    adress it properly.

Windows 10 keeps failing update of KB4054517.

You are trying to install an update that was issued last year in December. Cumulative updates are exactly what it says on the tin - cumulative. The latest update includes all the December fixes and then some more. You should try manually installing the latest update, not worrying about this superseded one.

    Cumulative Update KB4074588 Windows 10 v1709 Build 16299.248 - Feb. 13

If that too fails, then report back and we can suggest other things to try.

So I gave it a try with the update you said and I am still getting the same issue. It will reboot and say updated failed reverting changes. And windows update still shows it is pending KB4054517.

There are some standard fixes to attempt (in this order) when a system isn't working as it should.

    1. From a command prompt (Admin) run sfc /scannow (repeat up to 3 times if errors aren't fixed the first time)
tutorial: Run SFC Command in Windows 10

    2. From a command prompt (Admin) run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
tutorial: Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image

If sfc couldn't fix problems at first, it may be able to after running dism.

    3. An in-place repair install. This will reinstall Windows, while keeping installed apps, programs and user files.
This is time-consuming, but usually fixes most problems.
tutorial: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

It is a good idea to make a system image before repairing the system, just in case. Macrium Reflect (free) is often recommend in this forum.

Windows 10 keeps failing update of KB4054517.

I am experiencing te same isues. So far I have successfuly completed the CheckHealth command, which returned a Healthy status. I proceeded to Step 4 and now there is a sub-window that says:
    Operation
    Running
    [ oooooooooo ]

How should I interpret the string of zeros?
What should be my next Steps?

I have a PC and having been running Windows 10 without issue until about 6 weeks ago. I started experiending BSOD Watchdog Violation and Video Scheduler Internal Error messages. I've been fighting with my PC ever since. I tried deleting the SoftwareUpdate folder but the system is stuck trying to do the KB4054517 update, so I can't delete it to try updating it manually.
    Help please.

Thanks for letting us know it worked for you.

  12. I am also having updates keep failing, For about 2 weeks now it freezes and I have to reboot and it trys again and freezes again at 84% then I reboot again and it restores previous version. This is getting very annoying since it takes me 20 minutes to start my computer.
    I have tried Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and sfc /scannow still fails!
