    Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

    Slugger, I appreciate your reply. Repairing the MS Visual C++ Redistributables is at best a temporary solution. I repair them frequently (at least the 2012 and 2013 versions as these are the only repairable ones), but that doesn't always stop KB3119142. It always seems to come back after a cumulative service update. The update seems to break MS Visual C++ again.

    I paid for and installed 10 Pro so I could (and did) use Group Edit to set the Windows Update option to Notify to Download and Install. Not only should this stop unwanted updates at times I need my Windows PC to be stable, it should stop all updates until I choose to install them.

    What is frustrating is KB3119142 not only ignores this setting, it did so 5 times today! With Pro and Windows Update settings set to Notify, I should be notified KB3119142 is waiting to be installed again, so I could repair MS Visual C++ (again), restart, and Check for Updates. This should eliminate KB3119142 from being installed. But KB3119142 is so badly broken, it installs anyway.

    What is even more frustrating (if such a thing is possible) is MS has been notified again and again about KB3119142, and has not fixed it. This implies MS is ignoring the issue, or is unable to fix the issue. Either possibility reflects badly on MS support.

    I was an IT specialist for 43 years, including many years in software product support. I would be ashamed if I created a software update that behaved so badly.

    I've checked updates since last night and I haven't seen KB3119142 pop up. My history had 20 installs of this update!
    I have to agree MS needs to fix this. Either uninstall these redistributables and then install the latest one. I understand different apps need them but it is confusing at the least.
    I will watch the updates and report back.

    I went to the page:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=48145 and downloaded the
    VC++ packages (both x64 and x32 in my case since my machine has a 64 bit processor).

    Running both those packages fixed the problem. (I use Visual Studio Community 2015)

    Hope that helps someone. *Smile

    Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

    I am running Win 10 Pro (Insider - Fast Track) and current build 14316, but this problem has been in the last several builds. Its disturbing that even as a MS partner and giving them this problem build after build it remains.
    It is the first thing I check on a new build upgrade. It just keeps going and going and..

    I ran Change/repair for both 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) - 11.0.61030' & 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) - 11.0.60610 which then errors and then disappears.
    Secondly I ran Change/repair for both 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) - 11.0.61030'
    This x64 version requires a restart.
    I rebooted.

    Guess what? Still going and going and .... (KB3119142 VC++ 2012 update 4)

    I even have Visual Studio 2015 Pro with update 2 - so there are numerous VC redistributables in the list.

    Batter up!

    Unfortunately after each insider update you're going to have to perform the same procedure. For some reason it's reset and need to be repaired each time.

    anotherca, go HERE and follow Microsoft instructions for an alternate solution to the C++ problem. The original repair works for some but this alternate now also works for me and many others.
