    Windows 10 Laptop Almost Completely Unusable


    A few days ago, i logged onto my laptop to find that it was in ‘safe mode’ with a black background and i had no sound and couldn’t use the internet. Every other device in my house has perfect internet. I managed to get the computer out of safe mode by using some tricks of other websites, but i still have no internet or sound. I believe the problem has something to do with a failed update as the laptop says ‘error encountered’ every time i try and check error code is 0x80070422 but i am not sure. I have tried multiple things, such as ‘sfc scannow’ and ‘DISM’ usage in the command prompt from other websites solutions, but nothing has worked. I tried to perform a ‘recovery’ but that failed. I can’t reset the laptop in any way whatsoever as when i try to do so it just says ‘There was a problem resetting your PC’ so my laptop is essentially broken. Please can anyone help?

    Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
