Windows 10: Windows 10 Licence 'Unactivated'

Please help. I'm running Windows - 10 20H2 - 19042.746.


Windows has become unactivated. I upgraded free from WIndows 8 on day one. I have tried all sorts of fixes. None worked. I spoke with Microsoft helpline.

I ran "wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey" this produced error code and no key.

Microsft advised contact PC seller for key. I bought PC years ago is no longer warranty so doubt Dell will help me.


I have wiped PC and reset Windows. Same error.

I tried 3rd party software ShowKey Plus. This found product key on system and the last 5 digits matched those in Windows Activation screen.

Today i tried different method from How To Geek:

This worked but gave me a different product key from before.

I tried to activate with both keys neither worked.


Does the product key get replaced when you reinstall Windows?

If not why do have 2 product keys?

An why will they not activate?

Activation error code 0x80004005. Windows get help does not recognise the code.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Unactivated windows consequences

Unactivated Windows will mean you cannot make any meaningful changes to the operating system all changes will be lost after Windows is shut down

Also, it is against the EULA to run Windows 10 without licencing the software...
