Windows 10: Windows 10 Like To Crash Frequently

Hello there r/Windows10

I bought a computer last month, it is a Dell Optiplex with a fresh install of Windows 10, 8gb of RAM and 500gb internal storage with an Intel Core i3 processer (4th Gen).

This pc was made on a a budget but it does everything I expect it to do, except it crashes. A lot.

As of right now, I've seemed to narrow it down to a few conditions, if either A) 1 or more games are loaded during a session. B) If the session is longer than a few hours. C) Minecraft seems to make this worse? (Java version) With a session being time between Startup to Shutdown.

After scrolling through several Microsoft forums posts of people stating that they have experienced similar things, trying all kinds of fixes labelled on there by Microsoft employees, it still hasn't worked.

Whilst I am fine with restarting the computer every time I want to play a different game, it's annoying, I shouldn't need to and I just want to find a fix!

Please help, and please direct me anywhere else I can go to seek answers.

EDIT 1: The programs or occasionally the whole OS will freeze. It hasn't blue screened at all.

I've run several diagnostics through Administrator Command Prompt, even checking for bad HDD sectors, just for it to come back with no issues found.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

I would guess that your GPU is faulty, the crashes that are most frequent seem related to the GPU.

I do have a suggestion, although this suggestion is more often seen with 0x9F crashes where drivers are in an inconsistent state for the OS.
Try to change the powerplan, standard there are following plans

1. Powersaver,
2. Balanced, standard selected,
3. High performance

If you didn't change your power plan, you have balanced selected.
Select High performance and see if it makes a difference.
