Windows 10: Windows 10 logs into black screen with cursor

I’ve been walking through the help steps on Microsoft’s page as this seems like a common problem but so far I can’t achieve anything.



So I have an Alienware desktop with Windows 10 that’s a few years old and I stopped using about 2 years ago, I hooked it up and I can login but I can’t get past the black screen with cursor, my desktop doesn’t load neither does the task bar with start menu. If I press control alt del I can get the task manager to open.



Things I have tried

1. Booting to safe mode results in the same problem, no desktop, no start menu.

2. Same thing happens when I boot to safe mode with networking

3. Through the task manager I have tried to restart explorer.exe, which it doesn’t do on its own, it just turns off.

4. In turn I tried to manually run explorer.exe after the failed restart but that doesn’t fix the problem either.

5. I have tried running system restore to 2 previous restore points before I stopped using it, both failed with different errors which I took pictures of with my phone.

6. I tried the self diag to repair start up issues which also failed with an error.

7. I read third party antivirus can hinder start up so through task manager I disabled my third party anti virus software which didn’t fix anything.

8. I tried running regedit and going to winlogon to make sure the Shell file is loading explorer.exe, which it is.

9. I launched device manager and updated the drivers for everything, fixed nothing.

I do not have a windows CD as it came preloaded on the pc upon purchase. I have files on this computer that I do not wish to lose, but when I run command prompt and open notepad, and then file/open and browse to the files I want to send to my usb drive to save, everything freezes up as soon as I right click. Worst case scenario i was going to format to factory settings but I would like to back up those files first if at all possible.

Black Screen after Log on

So this is not a BSOD ? Have a Windows 10 disc or USB Flash Drive made ? How are you getting to task manager Ctrl.+Alt+Del ? Any cursor on screen ?

 

Black Screen after Log on


Computer boots to windows log on,have no password here.After a minute on log on it go to a black screen,stays there forever. I can get to Task Manager from black Screen,lost on what to do next. Just want my Windows 10 back, not sure what caused this problem. Any Suggestion on what my next step should be?*Sad

 

Black screen with cursor after log-in

A couple months ago my laptop started to log in into a black screen with a visible cursor. By log on I mean that after typing in my password the screen would go black, but before that everything is visible like my backgrounds, my account picture etc. The
weird thing is that whilst it was in black screen, an update for iTunes came on the screen very clearly despite nothing else being on the screen (except the cursor).

Ive tried booting into safe mood with Internet but I still get no further results than just the black screen and cursor.

Ive been on Windows 10 for a good while so I'm not sure what the problem is.
