Windows 10 Mail app will not open.

Three days after what appeared to be a smooth upgrade from Windows 8.1, I experienced a problem with complete loss of Start screen, Start button and Search was also none active. The only solution appeared to be to create another user account which seemed to bring things back to normal. Today, one day after 'normalisation' I attempted to create an additional mail account and discovered the Mail app has frozen completely. All other apps appear to work normally.

I have tried the standard 're-boot' option but that has no effect. It appears that the uninstall/reinstall option is not available for Mail. Any ideas?

    :)

Windows 10 Mail app will not open attachments

Since updating to Windows 10 v1709 yesterday, I have been unable to open attachments to emails through the Mail app. When I click on the attachment and choose Open, it offers to Save the attachment instead (as a file without an extension!). I have tried
running the Troubleshooter and turning Live Tile off for the Mail app, without success.

What has worked is to choose to Forward the relevant email. I don't have to specify a recipient: the attachment becomes available immediately. I remember this trick from when I had the same problem with the Mail app on a Lumia 640 phone. It may provide a
    clue as to the problem.

Grateful if anyone can offer a proper solution so Microsoft can sort the problem, which affects many customers. I understand I could avoid the problem by going to Webmail, but I would find the app more convenient (if it worked properly).

Windows 10 Mail app will not open attachments

Thanks for your further helpful suggestions.

In the end, rather than take the risk of losing my stored emails as a result of reinstallation or reset I chose to chat online with a case handler at Microsoft. Having explained I did not want to roll back to v 1703 or reset/reinstall Mail and Calendar,
I allowed a remote session, in the course of which my problem resolved itself. It appeared that in the first hours since the upgrade to v 1709 the Mail app had not been recognising attachments' file extensions and therefore not calling up the relevant apps
to open them. Now, it does.

Neither of us could understand why. I'm just happy the problem has gone away.

    Kind regards

Windows 10 Mail app will not open.

I have also just upgraded to Windows 10, and my computer has now decided not to let me access my mail. This is a recent occurrence as I have previously been able to do so within Windows 10.
    Any answers please?

I have also noticed that this problem also affects the Windows Calendar. Can anyone also confirm that this is the case? I understand that W10 mail and Calendar have recently received an upgrade. I wonder whether that is the cause of the problem or is to be the cure?

  7. Mail, Calendar & People are the same app, just a different front end, so if you have issues with one you could have issues with these three

seems a few people have various issues with mail, there is a patch coming out next week, so hopefully they will get resolved

I have two accounts on my computer. The weird thing is, email and calendar works perfectly on one account but not the other. I can't figure out why that should be. No settings have been changed manually on either account. I guess I'll just have to wait for the patch.

I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 on 2 Aug 2015. I prefer to use my long-time Comcast account for email so it connected it with no problem. On the 5th or 6th of August the Win Mail screen appears to be locked. My cursor moves around it just fine but nothing will link and the highlighted email at the top of the incoming list does not show in the View side of the screen. New emails are being added to incoming. The only modifications I've made since upgrade were in the Personalization area, which shouldn't affect email screen. I haven't checked Calendar. I did not like 8.1 email at all and have patiently waited for this upgrade. This stuff shouldn't be rocket science anymore so stopping messing with the easy tasks.

I'll gladly accept help or suggestions if it's me who is doing something wrong.

The same thing has happened to me. Windows 7. Sony Vaio laptop. Upgraded to Windows 10. Everything works fine until the last update, and then mail and calendar app wont start. The People app will start which is my contacts from my mail app. If I create a new profile it will work. Very odd

I signed up for a phone call from MS Support. It told me the wait was 270 mins so I set my alarm *Wink About midnight Omar called to help. He grabbed my screen and took off. MSCONFIG went to check updates and there was a critical update on the day that my email changed to 'lock.' I thought he was going to recover before the update - that might be a problem too - but, no, he then went to Services and unchecked a bunch of modules. Too fast for me to keep up. He assessed my problem as the Start process was so slow that the Mail screen couldn't come up until all conflicts in Start were resolved. So, if I had waited, possibly forever, the Mail screen may have finally showed up??? He said Yes.

I asked him how all the Start modules got checked in the first place. He didn't know. And, why did the Mail screen come up fine for three days, and then after a critical update there was a problem. He didn't know. He was nice but assured me that his job is to fix things not be a detective. OK. For now Mail is coming up quickly and is working but I don't necessarily buy the fix. I try not to overload my system with add-ons, apps and programs I don't need or use so how Start got overwhelmed I don't know.

Now, I'm tracking through everything installed as when I tried to start iTunes I found that he had unchecked Bonjour, which is needed to run iTunes.

I hope this helps some of you with this problem. At least check your Services to ensure you have only the modules you want.
