Windows 10 Mouse and Keyboard not working

I worked on my HP Compaq dc5800 for four days straight trying to solve the mouse and keyboard problem. All that troubleshooting crap on the forum did not work!!! I finally used my back up business computer and downloaded "the media creation tool file". I went to the Microsoft home and downloaded fresh windows 10 "for another PC". I burned a new win 10 DVD and pressed f9 and booted from CD. this loaded a new win 10 on computer, mouse works and keyboard back!!! Bonus is If you use Google as your Browser and go to settings it will sync all your bookmarks right back!! Boo ya!! ( I did have most important files on my flash drive before trouble began) hope this helps and skip all that troubleshooting unplugging crap!!! (humming end of rocky movie theme right now*Biggrin)

I am a Systems Manager for a midsize church that has 17 devices. We have upgraded half of our units to Windows 10. I too ran into the annoying no keyboard/mouse on one of our HP Pavilion Desktops. It had been running beautifully. I tried all the tips from the Microsoft forum as well as other web sources to no avail.

I solved my problem but the following is not for novice users. This process took about two and half hours:

    1. Knowing there could possibility be a reinstallation of the operating system with a chance to lose everything I needed to get to the data on the unit. I opened the computer case and attached a USB to SATA/IDE adapter kit ($14 to $25 at computer stores) I have in my toolbox for doing such things to the disk drive. (Laptops require removing the hard drive)

    2. I attached the cable via USB to a nearby second computer. The drive appears as drive e: and a message to SCAN DISK and Fix appeared. After performing this task I went to USERS/MY DOCUMENTS and retrieved my data forwarding to the second computer.

    3. After assuring I have my data, from the second computer I ran Check Disk on the ailing drive. This is done by keying CMD in the search line on Windows 7 or 10. Right mouse click on ICON and run as administrator. A DOS box will appear. Type CHKDSK space (drive letter) / F. It should look as following: CHKDSK e: /f

    4. The information screen went crazy as numerous disk errors were detected and repaired. It ran for nearly 45-minutes.

    5. I disconnected my KIT and reattached the SATA cables of the ailing system. I powered on and got a message to Wait, Windows 10 is preparing for boot. It took about 5 to 8 minutes and the system finally started correctly.

    6. After such trauma to a drive I always use tools such as CC Cleaner to remove program junk. It found numerous registry errors from the many Windows 10 restart attempts. I restarted my computer again after performing this process. The first time this is done the system restart will be lengthy putting everything in place. Now the computer works as expected.

I have had two such Windows 10 blue screen events the past 90-days and the suggested Microsoft fixes don’t work very well. One system I had to perform a clean Windows 10 installation. That is for another topic on the forum

Thank you for replying to my message, however, finally solved the problem. It took about 3 or 4 times of uninstalling and reinstalling and it finally started working. Thanks again for your response.

  5. Hello everyone. I was searching internet for my problem and I saw that many people have the same problem with me.
My problem started from a blue screen then after shutdown when i press a key on by k/b or mouse my pc automatically boots.
Also when it started both k/b and mouse wasnt working. It was like they didnt have enough power!

After a lot of searching I found the solution...

    1) Go to device manager (right click on My Computer, manage), go to Device Manager and click on Keyboards
    2) Right click --> Properties on every device there and go to Power Management section. There remove the tick about booting the pc from this device.
    3) Do the same on Mice and other pointing

And you are ok! Sorry for my bad english

  6. just another update in that i have now got my mouse and keyboard working on windows 10. The only thing i have done is to move the USB Nano Receivers and connect, them to a USB 3.0 4-Port Compact Aluminum Hub and that's it
it could quite well be just a 2.4G frequency conflict

  9. FYI...I experienced a problem with my keyboard. The computer would never see the keyboard on start-up. I would have to pull the connection and then it would work. I tried all of the fixes in settings etc., none worked. I went to Dell, my computer co., and downloaded all the Windows 10 fixes Dell had.........presto, fixed. FYI

My sister is developing problems with Windows 10 and her wireless mouse/keyboard combo (Logitech Wave MK550).

It has been working fine until today. Let her describe it.

Here's Logitech's page on the MK550, which clearly shows it is Windows 10 compatible.

Logitech Wireless Wave Combo MK550 - Logitech Support

I asked her if she just got a Windows 10 update, she says she doesn't think so (though one did show up not long ago in general). Asked her to type in winver to get the version, and of course, the keyboard doesn't work.

Told her to try a wired keyboard/mouse, but she doesn't have one. Told her to buy one. *Biggrin

Any thoughts? There appear to be about two or three different possible solutions in this thread, but she can't do any of 'em until she can actually use the mouse/keyboard...or keep the computer from rebooting frequently.

Nevermind. She said it was a hardware failure (hard drive) on her computer, and she is setting up a new one.

What finally worked for me was to go to ease of use under mouse and uncheck "use keypad to move around the screen". I finally noticed that only the number keys weren't working, the home, end page up and down and arrow keys all worked. I found this after trying all the other options that were listed to solve this problem. Hope this helps someone get their 10 key working again

Windows 10 Mouse and Keyboard not working

I've had issues twice now with the letter M key and number pad 0 and 1 not responding until I press the keys repeatedly, first time I turned off Fast Start Up in the Power Settings, 2nd time I just use the device manager to update the keyboard drivers to browse my computer and let me pick from a list, I just used the exact same driver, I realise this is shared all over the forums and may already be covered, just sharing my experience with this frustrating issue if nothing else.

i am using HP laptop. after installing the windows 10, my touchpad was working but the keyboard was not working.

so i tried this method of selecting any driver. i selected the HID driver. but after restart, even the touch pad stopped working.

  15. I am having the same issue with the addition that i don't have a restore point... . should i reset my PC coz that seems like the last resort. Unless there is something that can be done via CMD. Furthermore, I also updated Kaspersky before last restart, it might be that kaspersky is locking me out on all hardware as networking is also not working.
