Windows 10: Windows 10 mouse pointer lag/general lag

Discus and support Windows 10 mouse pointer lag/general lag in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; uninstalling the nvidia driver and just running without any graphics driver at 1024 x 600 gets rid of the lag so its a problem with the nvidia drivers.... 1. Windows 10 mouse pointer lag/general lag

I've been struggling with this same issue for a month now and haven't been able to find anything online -- took me this long to find this thread which finally describes the same kind of graphics lag that I've had.

The screen is very laggy and basically doesn't paint/refresh properly. Even when I type I wouldn't see the letters appear until 5-10 seconds later when the entire sentence would just pop up on the display. This affected MOST, but not all applications.

Eventually, I found that if I move my mouse over the area of the screen that won't paint in a very fast random circular motion that it often (not always) helped the window/screen paint that area.

This was enough to let me navigate a little but browsing my hard drive in windows explorer was a nightmare because you would click and think that it was hung or not working, but in reality it simply wasn't painting/refreshing the screen and it seemed to be one of the worst applications, but the rapid mouse circular motion helped a little allowing the screen to update 3-5 seconds after I stopped moving the mouse.

And it's clearly tied to Windows 10 and not the graphics card because I swapped my AMD Radeon card (slightly older) with a newer Nvidia GTX970 (pretty high end) and experienced the same problems. FYI, I most certainly am running the absolute latest Nvidia drivers and that does not solve the problem.

My temporary solution was to re-install graphics drivers and then never reboot my PC because it would re-occur after EVERY reboot. Which has been a nightmare as other things have been causing me to have to reboot much more often lately.

So then I started just 'deleting' my graphics card from Device Manager and lettings Windows finally re-discover it and load the drivers which also worked well to temporarily fix -- only to become laggy again after a reboot.

Finally I just found this post and tried the resolution change mentioned and that DID WORK! This is much faster and more simple than re-installing the Graphics Drivers... BUT, it is still a TEMPORARY Fix I believe.

For the heck of it I also just tried un-checking all "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power" in the USB Hubs, and HID devices in my device manager -- just in case it somehow helps.

and re-install video card drivers that I had placed on my desktop for easy access; and to get into the Device Manager.

I'll keep testing and searching and will report back here if/when I (or Microsoft) ever fix this ridiculously annoying issue with Windows 10. I typed this long summary in the hopes that someone else searching for at least a helpful temporary fix might find this thread more easily than I did.

Try pressing windows+R and writing verifier.exe
Then choose delete existing settings and restart. I had this exact same lag that began to occur a couple of weeks ago, but this action solved my lag. At least it is worth trying.

  3. I had the same problem and here was my solution and the fix is mercifully easy. I have a NVIDIA GeForce card, model forgotten, new this year.
symptoms were extremely slow video response, incomplete portions of display along with arrow cursor leaving trails that did not disappear, rendering my computer unusable.

Go to NVIDIA control panel from Windows CONTROL PANEL. Click on "change resolution" and then restore default resolution.

Problem was the result of using windows custom font size which it says is not recommended and this is the reason why.

  4. Windows 10 mouse pointer lag/general lag

My mouse cursor lags heavily but only when it is over the desktop wallpaper. As soon as it hovers over ANY open window, it normalizes. It was fine for the last five months.
