    Windows 10 - my dvd/cd drive is not recognised, at all


    My DVD drive's are in the inventory. I can right click and make them eject. But when I right click and click "Open", I get the "please insert a disc into drive ?:". I insert a disc, close the tray, and after reading, or so it seems, nothing changes. There is no volume listed, nothing. And this was in 8.1, and 10..., help....

    Many thanks for your solution as I now have a working external DVD drive on both my Win 10 computers. When I upgraded my Laptop the External DVD worked fine from day 1. When I later updated my Win Tablet to 10 the External DVD would not work. Initially I could not find a solution and contacted HP, the tablet manufacturer but no solution. I then contacted Samsung the manufacturer of the DVD drive bit again no solution.

    I then found your solution and with great delight it worked and I again thank you, a very happy man *chuckle *chuckle

    I tried this but it comes back as access denied. I am the administrator on this PC, any help would be appreciated.

    What you need to do is right click on command prompt, and from there select Run as administrator.

    Upgraded from Windows 7 to windows 10 two weeks ago and just noticed today my drives were gone. *cry

    After visiting numerous sites, including the ones with the response "your DVD player must be broken" - yeah, overnight, right after I upgraded from 7 to 10 - and my favorite "Option 5 is the best one and will work for everybody" - NOPE - I copied and pasted your instructions to my command prompt, rebooted and now I can play music and view videos once again! Now I will possibly keep Win 10 and not trash it - jury is still out on that.

    Sadly, this didn't work on my laptop. I thought it would because there was some action, circle going round, and then nothing.
    I'm using a laptop with Windows 10 preinstalled. I don't know what else to try. Any further ideas/suggestions?
