  1. Windows 10 no longer seeing networked Drobo 5N, 5N2 through AVG Essential Firewall

Windows 10 Home and the Drobo dashboard *used to connect* and show a networked Drobo 5N and a Drobo 5N2. Yesterday, I discovered my computer no longer sees either one. I tried:

    - Disabling AVG Enhanced Firewall (Windows Defender Firewall is off)
    - Disabling Nord VPN
    - Restarting the computer after disabling AVG Enhanced Firewall and Nord VPN
    - Looking for the missing drives in Windows Disk Management (they're no longer there)

*None of these made any difference* - the computer doesn't see the networked Drobos for ANY combination of enabled or disabled firewall or VPN.

The addresses used by the networked Drobos are in the Firewall's "Friends" range. And I can use the FileBrowser app on my iPad Pro to see network address and connect to both networked Drobos.

The FileBrowser app *doesn't* connect the iPad to my computer anymore, however - it throws a Socket timeout error when I try to connect. And the iPad's FileExplorer Pro app doesn't see my computer anymore either - it throws a system timeout error.

My Windows computer is able to reach the internet through my ASUS LAN router and connected DSL modem. It looks like the computer is isolated from the rest of the local network for some reason.

*** Any ideas about what I need to fix? ***

    :)

  2. Drobo Launches the Drobo 5N Storage System

Drobo, maker of award-winning data storage products for businesses and professionals, today announced the Drobo 5N, the latest in their new lineup of ultra-modern, high-performance storage systems. The Drobo 5N, a sophisticated, network-attached storage (NAS) device, extends Drobo's traditional ease-of-use with increased performance and data protection enhancements for personal and professional users who want a fast, easy, and ultra-reliable file sharing and backup experience over the network.

Like the recently introduced Drobo Mini and Drobo 5D, the new Drobo 5N features Drobo's patented BeyondRAID and Data-Aware Tiering technologies, to deliver capacity, performance, and data protection that have traditionally been reserved for more expensive, enterprise-grade storage.

Windows 10 no longer seeing networked Drobo 5N, 5N2 through AVG Essential Firewall drobo_drobo_5n_01_thm.jpg

"Drobo is the future of storage," stated Robin Harris, chief analyst at StorageMojo.com. "I've said it a number of times in public forums -- the new Drobo products are automated, fast, affordable, and artfully meld both hard drive and SSD technology to deliver a great capacity/performance value proposition. Drobo has once again advanced the state-of-the-art in storage."

Driving a New Era of Performance and Data Protection
The new Drobo 5N, like all Drobos, employs BeyondRAID technology, which automates sophisticated data protection and capacity expansion operations so that even users who aren't storage experts can enjoy the peace-of-mind that comes with knowing that their data is automatically protected.

In addition, the Drobo 5N, much like its sibling Thunderbolt-powered solutions the Drobo Mini and 5D, utilizes Drobo's Data-Aware Tiering capability, which intelligently uses high-performance flash (SSD) technology to accelerate performance of the storage array, allowing applications such as Adobe Lightroom and Apple iPhoto or iTunes fast access to data. This unique solution maintains traditional Drobo ease-of-use in that the configuration, provisioning, and performance optimization of the hybrid storage is completely automated. Now even storage novices can enjoy benefits traditionally reserved only for storage experts with enterprise-grade systems.

Drobo extends its data protection in the Drobo 5N with a new feature that protects user data in the event of an unforeseen power failure or interruption. Like all advanced Drobo innovations, this new data protection feature is fully automated, so all users can enjoy the data safety benefits traditionally reserved for large enterprise customers, and previously unattainable in this price category.

Flexible for a Myriad of Uses
Like all Drobo storage arrays, the Drobo 5N networked storage is extremely easy to set up on the network. The Drobo 5N supports both Mac and Windows systems and can be used in a wide variety of use cases, such as:

    ● Centralized backup for multiple systems on the network, including very intuitive, native support for Apple Time Machine on Mac OS computers.
    ● Data sharing for both Windows and Mac OS systems across the network.
    ● As an easy and powerful upgrade to existing customers of the Drobo FS network-attached storage solution. Drobo FS customers can quickly upgrade to the new Drobo 5N simply by removing their disk drives from the FS and inserting them into a new 5N. Step-by-step instructions may be found at Home - Drobo.

Specs, Pricing, Availability -- and Live Demos
The Drobo 5N is easy, affordable, and provides a superior user experience with innovative capabilities that professionals require and typically find only in products at a much higher cost.

    ● Drobo BeyondRAID, which provides thin provisioning, instant expansion, mixed drive size flexibilty, automatic protection levels, dual-disk redundancy, virtual hot spare, and drive reordering.
    ● Drobo automated Data-Aware Tiering, which automatically configures and utilizes both hard drives and SSD technology.
    ● Five storage bays, each of which can hold one standard 3.5 inch SATA hard disk drive or solid state drive; and one mSATA solid state drive in the Drobo Accelerator Bay for increased performance.
    ● Maximum capacity 20 Terabytes (TB) when configured with 4 TB drives, resulting in 16 TB of protected storage.
    ● One Gigabit Ethernet port.
    ● Support of Mac OS X 10.7.x Lion, Mac OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion, Windows 7 SP1 32 and 64 bit, Windows 8 32 and 64 bit operating systems.
    ● Support of Common Internet File System (CIFS) / Server Message Block (SMB) and Apple Filing Protocol (AFP).
    ● The Drobo 5N, like the Drobo 5D and Mini, includes a new 2-year standard warranty.

Pricing starts at $599 MSRP, and the new Drobo 5N is available from leading online stores, direct marketers, and resellers worldwide. Visit Home - Drobo to learn more about the new products and to sign up for a live online demo with Drobo experts.

    Drobo 5N NAS Now Shipping

Drobo, makers of award-winning data storage products for businesses and professionals, today announced the general availability and shipping of its fastest and most technologically advanced networked storage, the new Drobo 5N.

The Drobo 5N further expands Drobo's new line of professional storage products, which includes the recently released Drobo 5D and the Drobo Mini, by leveraging the company's patent-pending SSD and tiering technology for the first time with networked storage. These, combined with Drobo's unique ease-of-use and flexibility, enable the Drobo 5N to provide an unprecedented package of simplicity, affordability and performance for home users, small offices and creative professionals. The 5N also utilizes Drobo's new, enhanced data protection capabilities, typically only found in more expensive enterprise storage systems.

Windows 10 no longer seeing networked Drobo 5N, 5N2 through AVG Essential Firewall 177a_thm.jpg

"Drobo continues to add truly impressive modern storage capabilities that are perfect for professionals and small businesses," stated Mark Peters, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "Drobo stands alone in delivering its comprehensive range of advanced capabilities -- automated tiering, SSD performance and hard drive capacity, plus enterprise-grade reliability features -- in this price category for the networked home office and small office customer. By also maintaining its renowned ease-of-use, Drobo ensures it delivers both financial and operational value."

    Easier, Faster, Safer
Like all Drobos, the 5N utilizes Drobo's patented ease-of-use technologies, including "traffic light" management; the ability to automatically keep data in a protected state, even withstanding disk drive failures; mix-and-match disk drive support and expansion of system capacity by adding or hot-swapping drives on-the-fly with zero downtime.

The Drobo 5N adds a significant performance boost via a brand-new hardware design and the use of Drobo's patent-pending Data-Aware Tiering technology. The increased horsepower and ability to support SSD technology in addition to hard drives accelerates the overall performance of the storage array, allowing faster access to data from applications such as Adobe Lightroom and Apple iPhoto or iTunes, without compromising overall system capacity.

In addition, the Drobo 5N provides an advanced data protection feature often found on enterprise-grade storage that automatically protects user and system data in the event of a spontaneous or unexpected power failure. The system utilizes intelligent software and battery technology that allows all critical data to be written to non-volatile storage, ensuring all important information is kept safe, even in the event of unexpected power loss.

    Instant Upgrades
The Drobo 5N replaces the Drobo FS, one of Drobo's most popular products ever, as an entry-level networked storage solution that supports both Apple and PC platforms; the 5N also provides an easy-to-use interface for Apple's popular Time Machine. Existing customers of Drobo FS can easily upgrade by either copying their data to a new 5N or simply moving their Drobo FS disk drives to the Drobo 5N, thereby gaining access to the greater performance and data protection features of the 5N within minutes.

Perfect for Media, Networked Homes and Small Offices
For media enthusiasts looking to share and back up video, photo and music files, the Drobo 5N provides a reliable plug-and-play storage solution with the real-world performance to seamlessly run rich media libraries such as iTunes and iPhoto as well as to safely store and back up personal data. With Drobo's automated data protection, the 5N makes storing and protecting valuable data very simple, with enough storage for more than 90,000 16 Megapixel raw photos, 650 Blu-ray discs, and up to 5,000 hours of 1080p HD video.

In addition, home and small office users who need an easy and affordable solution for network backups, file sharing and future expandability in Apple, PC or mixed environments will appreciate the affordable but advanced features of the new Drobo 5N, including its compatibility with a wide range of local and cloud backup solutions to deliver remote access and off-premises data protection.

    Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the Drobo 5N begins at $599 (U.S. MSRP), and the new system is available almost everywhere technology products are sold, including Amazon, B&H Photo Video, CDW and the online Drobo store at www.drobo.com.

Windows 10 no longer seeing networked Drobo 5N, 5N2 through AVG Essential Firewall

Windows 10 cannot connect to NAS Drobo 5N2

Hello, my Windows 10 Dell cannot connect to my Drobo 5N2 which is connected to a wireless router via Ethernet cable. I get an error "Restoring Netwrk Connections" An Error occurred while reconnecting Y: to \\XXXXXXXX\Public. Microsoft Windows Network: The
Network path was not found. The connect has not been restored."

I also have a Western Digital NAS on the same Router which also cannot be accessed.

I can connect with my Mac just find, but my two Windows 10 computers get the same error message so it appears to have been one of the recent updates.

    Thank you in advance.
