    Hello!

First, a brief background. Four days ago, my PC wouldn't boot. Past the screen where I can enter BIOS, I only got a black screen, and no action whatsoever. I waited several seconds, but then was interrupted and had to go outside to meet someone briefly. When I returned, after 5 ~ 6 minutes, my lock screen was back, and I was able to enter my p/w, etc.. It was then working fine again. So that prompted me to prepare a recovery USB drive.

Today, about an hour ago, the same problem happened and I later got a message telling me to insert my Win 10 disk and click on Repair PC. I don't have one since I have a legitimate Win 7 and installed Win 10 during Microsoft's special upgrade offer. So I inserted my recovery USB drive and entered BIOS to move it to the top of the boot sequence. I got a blue screen with a number of options and chose the repair option. It quickly returned that it couldn't repair my install. I then returned my boot sequence to SSD at the top. I rebooted and waited, but this time got a black screen from the Intel Boot Agent. it said "No bootfilename received", "Exiting Intel Boot Agent", followed by "Error 1962: No operating system found. Press any key..." I went to BIOS again, changed my boot sequence, and tried the recovery drive again, but couldn't get its screen of options where I could choose to reset my PC anymore. I only get the Intel boot agent which is useless.

My OS is on a 120GB SSD and is pretty much all I have there. All my apps and files are on my 2TB HDD with my important files and photos duplicated on an external 2TB HDD. So I see no problem re-installing the OS on the SSD. BUT THE PROBLEM IS that I don't have a physical copy of Win 10 on CD I would have used it when prompted, nor do I have the license key for it. All I have is the Win 7 and its key on a USB drive. So since the MS upgrade offer is long gone, How can I restore my Win 10 without having to shell out big bucks???

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

    John

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
