Windows 10: windows 10 not responding

my toshiba laptop (about 8 years old) has recently started not responding (windows 10). it starts up ok but htne I can't open any programmes, and it takes abotu 10 mins even to get task manager to open (and then even that doesn't always respond!) Soemtimes clearing a couple of tasks helps for a bit but then the issue recurs. I've done a scan via the command prompt but no issues detected, my 'computer health' says 'no issues', I can't find anything wrong with it at all - the only thing it could be is that the battery is very low but I don't see how that could be the probme becasue my computer is ALWAYS plugged in when it's on! PLEASE help, it's driving me nuts, I don't have the time or energy to continue trying to work out how to fix it so I can at least get ten minutes on the internet!

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
