I did all the same ... no way to solve this problem. For sure is Windows related because I'm now trying a couple of portable "explorer like" program as XYplorer and Xplorer2 and with that program absolutely no problem.

I'm using Eset since it was at the beginning and I'm very satisfied, so I'll try to contact Eset asking for help.

I'm still thinking about this problem and I've remembered that years ago (with Windows Vista) there was a similar problem and it was caused by the number of folders that the Windows registry could remember: only 1000.I found this post in a forum and it was resolved so.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
(now it's version 10.0 so we need help by a "GURU")

Disable the automatic recognition of folders.

Code: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\All Folders\Shell] "FolderType"="NotSpecified"
Changing the cache by setting the number of folders to remember to 10000.

Code: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell] "BagMRU Size"=dword:00002710
Save the file with the extension .reg for example folders-setting.reg
Done this, double click on file and joined to the register by giving OK to the UAC. Reboot.
I don't know if this may be a solution and unfortunately I don't know anyone expert to ask whether this can be a solution, so i post here!
Maybe someone here has experienced friends or there is an expert moderator in the forum.
Maybe Brink ...

3. Thanks for clarifying, it does not sound as though ESET is causing the issue on your machine then.
There's a neat Windows utility that will capture the steps, the only thing is that it creates HTML and the forum down't let members post HTML, so you will have to put the output in a compressed folder (.zip) and attach that folder.

Start > All apps > Accessories > Steps Recorder

Windows 10 not saving my folder view options. [IMG]

Launch the recorder, do your search(es), stop the recorder, save the output, than put it in a zip folder and attach the zip.

re: Regedit - it is still version 5, no change in Win10.

The process you posted tells Windows to not try to determine the folder type by what the folder contains (if you put a picture in a document type folder, Windows might try to change that folder to a picture type folder. I don't know if that still applies to Widows 10 though or if the registry mods will work in Win10.

I don't think that has any bearing on the Search issue on your machine.

Screen shots of the process you're using would help.

Glad you found a resolution after 12 years *Cool
*Thumbs

I originally found it through trial and error, but I think there there is a tutorial on it (SevenForums.com\tutorials). The tuts are a really good asset - I usually look there first to see if a member has a solution to an issue on my machine. After a while you get pretty good at finding what you need (search works well if you know the MS terminology, but simple searches also return good results).

Thanks Slartybart for your reply, I'll try immediately.

*Redface I've seen Microsoft Windows Version 10.0 and ... I didn't realized that is now Windows 10 and not registry editor 10 ...*Redface old age makes bad jokes ........

Opssss, you speak about search issue.
Why?
I admit (and it's obvious....) that English is not my language but - generally speaking - I'm normally able to understand and make myself understood, but that "search issue" let me astonished.
I don't have any search problem!
My problem is on the sorting order for the files in every folder on Windows.
I set a sorting order, for example in a pictures folder I want all the pictures as large thumbnails and in modified data order. I get that order and when I leave that folder (when the folder is not my active folder or I go up in level in a different folder or I open a folder inside that pictures folder) and I reload that folder, the view changed in the default details view.
And this happens every time and in every folder - documents, videos, pictures - same issue: folders doesn't remember how I set the display of files just before.

It's exactly like in this video posted by a member with the same problem HERE

Do you means screen shots of my task manager? for apps, background processes or windows processes?

However, I wrote to Eset customer care proposing my problem, I'll see if they answer.
And another thing seems clear: this problem affectes only the English Windows OS because I posted my problem in several Italian forums and no one has this problem.

This is probably something curious and unimportant.
In my research I found a utility (ShellBagsView v1.16) that displays the list of all folder settings saved by Windows.
I've tested and it works with Windows 10 too.
I casually noticed that in my case the latest change is indicated on the day when I have no longer been able to have folders in order defined by me.
And ... It will be a coincidence ... the list is of 1010 folders are showed!!
In older Windows there was the same problem when it surpassed the 1,000 folders.
But I might have misunderstood... bit I'm so upset that still none has a fix.

I have now a ticket with Eset customer care, I'm following a post in Microsoft, in Eset forum, on Reddit and it seems that more and more people is now affected by this problem.

Any good news here?

The only thing I can tell now it's that Eset is collecting data on the problem.
They replied to my Customer care ticket and I collected all the data by a program (Eset Log Collector).
And now ... we can only wait....

12. Thanks,

We had the grandchildren for the weekend so I gave them my attention.

I must have been reading another thread when I spoke of search. Please accept my apology.

Thank you for contacting ESET, but as long as you've already updated, that probably is not the cause. The issue was reported against an earlier ESET release, but please post their response.

It seems as though most people reporting the issue on this thread say that it started about the same time - a few days ago - it might well be one of the updates. It will take me another day to recover from the time spent with the young ones, then I'll take a look at the steps recorder that your posted - thanks.

Windows 10 not saving my folder view options.

No Lio it's not only related to the english version of windows 10/ess as i have both windows 10 and ESS 8 and i had the exact same issue.
I've tried to troubleshoot a little and experiment with registry changes but i was unable to fix the issue, i ended up doing a system restore to before i've installed ESS and everything got back to normal. I'll stay away from eset until the issue is fixed.
Oh and it's surely not an issue with windows 10 updates, as comparing my system before/after the system restore, there's no updates removed.
As i said on the eset forums it's probably some privileges that eset removes when a new potentially harmful file is found, as there are no more reads/writes in the bags registers.

I agree with you.
Unfortunately, I cannot restore because my system restore was turned off because of I use Paragon. But my image with Paragon was done at the first beginning of my Windows 10 setup and I was setting up my program when the problem occured.
The new image for system restore would be done after installing the essential software. *cry

Hey Lio, since now i don't feel like to reproduce the issue again as i'm staying away from eset until the issue is fixed,
please try to reset registry administrator rights by following this guide:

Let me know if it works
