Windows 10: Windows 10 not shutting down after feature update to 1809

My wife's laptop installed the update that brought her system up to version 1809. Since that update I have spent several hours trying to get the system to shutdown and stop saying it is installing updates.


Here is what happens when you try to shutdown. The screen shows that the system is shutting down and installing 3 updates. It take nearly 40 minutes to shutdown. If I restart the system and immediately shutdown again it will shutdown as normal, about 1-2 minutes. When the system is restarted and use for a period of time and you try to shutdown, another 40 minutes and installing 3 updates. At this point I am done trying to deal with this.


Why doesn't Microsoft realize that not everyone is running state of the art system that need a lot of the features they are forcing.


If I roll her system back to version 1803 will Microsoft at a later time push the update to version 1809 again in the future?

Insiders are testing a modified release of Windows 10 1809 feature update and the release will happen in due time. The Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 Pro N edition (1809 build) will be available for download once the feature update is pushed.



The new official release of the Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 Pro 1809 N edition will be listed under
Media Feature Pack list for Windows N editions once released.

Windows 10 feature 1809 update

Repeated failure :. Error 0x8024000b for windows 10 feature 1809 update.

Tried to update Feature 1809 manually . All attempts failed.

How to fix the error and update?

Running Windows update Trouble Shooter is not solving the issue.

 

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
