Windows 10: Windows 10 Now Has 350 Million Active Users

It is not clear for me that OS and Software will be moving to 64 bit, there are too many 32bit Software around and I think it will not be possible for many reasons to move to 64bit. A 64bit OS needs more RAM and HDD capacity and for smaller devices 32bit OS is the right choice.
About WinHelp32, there is a KB for 32bit and 64bit to support it in W8.1. There is none for W10.
So, seems W32 is not important and I assume that it will define. Now, I question why is that? My conclusion is that W32 will become more and more incompatible with future versions of W10 and people will be forced to move their Software to Universal App´s to protect their investions.
I have a older 32 bit Software that still works totally on 8.1, but in W10 there is a fork, either the Software works and most of things in W10 stopps working including saving settings or W10 things are working and the Software does not work totally.
So,based on this situation I can guess the tendency of what will happen with W32 Software in future.
I not an insider , but that is my opinion.

Well, I did not say MS will remove Win32 Support. What I mean is that they will not care about it.
About WinHelp32, if you ask me if I want to have WinHelp32 working or I prefer to have "Security" instead, the answer is only one: WinHelp32 please!

 

I still can't see what WinHelp32 has to do with rest of 32bit programs and applications. They might not care making 32 bit SW any more but that doesn't mean Windows will not support it.
Rumor is that even Linux is pulling out of 32bit OS but not applications which can also run in 64bit system.

 

Well, WinHelp32 is a major MUST have because all Handbooks were not printed in Paper, there is no other Documentation and so a Software without its Documentation is unsuable. There it beginns pointing the "gun right to the heart" of the Win32 Software.

Some applications are JUST NO GOOD for portable devices --of course it probably depends on your definition of a "Portable device".

With say Photoshop for example producing a decent high quality PRO A2 size print for example for a poster / publication / sales pitch / exhibition etc you certainly wouldn't want to even THINK about doing that on any mobile phone. For this type of stuff a decent > 48 inch monitor is still a minimum.

Loads of apps that will never work on a "Portable device".

Of course there's nothing wrong say in connecting a powerful phone to an external huge monitor for processing output - but that really stretches what "a portable device" is - and in any case you don't get enough control with these types of apps on using a touch screen anyway.

Portable devices have their uses but they won't kill other devices for a long time if ever.

I think some people need to get away from thinking computing applications are only about social media, a bit of internet browsing and emails. I don';t do games either but I'm sure some serious gamers wouldn't like to play their serious stuff with a tiny mobile phone / tablet screen.

That is not only "one" missing file, it is the whole Win32 question.
As I said before, Software without Documentation is USELESS. And MS knows that better than anybody else.

EDIT: It is something similar to Hardware without Drivers, electronic waste.

 

My case is probably an exception but of the 5 Win7 PCs that I had planned to Upgrade to Win10, I was only able to upgrade 3. Two of them failed the upgrade, regardless of anything I did.

Of the three upgraded PCs, two have been rolled back to Win7 -- as the strong request of the PC users.

So for me, the actual Win10 Upgrade count is 1, not 5.

I have to wonder, of this 350 Million devices running, what is their distribution in the following categories:
1) New PCs with Win10 preinstalled
2) Older PCs that upgraded to Win10 and are still running it
3) Older PCs that upgraded to Win10 but reverted back to their prior OS(s).

Also, an interesting poll would be to see, now, of all the folks that are still running Win10, how many would have made that choice if the Upgrade price was what it is going to be after this July?

I, for one, would NOT have upgraded if I would have had to pay $120, as I only paid $40 to upgrade to Win8, and that's all I was willing to pay to upgrade to Win10.

 

All the ones I upgraded are running Windows 10 and everyone pleased with being able to do so.

There could be some upgrade problems with OEM computers and their drivers. Those are most often complained about. Home built computers with off the shelf parts are easiest to upgrade.

 

Documentation can almost always be obtained from the manufacturers web site. Or a Google search etc. IMHO, the software is hardly useless just because help doesn't work. From my experience, it's iffy finding your answer even when it does work? Anyway, I don't see the point of beating a dead horse so I'll bow out of this side conversation and let the thread go back on track..

 

Manuals and help are mostly in .PDF format nowadays or just send you to internet site. I haven't used any in WinHelp32 format for years.

 

Would I upgrade if it wasn't free? *Think I'm in a bit of unique situation. I have a free MSDN subscription so I would get it free anyway. If I didn't have that I would have likely paid to upgrade at least one of my PC's. Maybe even both my laptop and desktop. If I found a good reputable deal on it.
