As we near the one year anniversary of the availability of Windows 10, we’re excited to share that Windows 10 is now running on 300 million active devices around the world.

We’re pleased to see Windows 10 become one of the largest online services in less than a year. Core to delivering our more personal computing vision, Windows 10 offers experiences that are familiar, safer and more secure, and more personal and productive – enabling innovative new experiences.

We’re seeing people at home, at schools, at small businesses, at large companies, and other organizations adopt Windows 10 faster than ever, and use Windows 10 more than ever before. A few examples:

Over 63 billion minutes were spent on Microsoft Edge in March alone, with 50% growth in minutes since the last quarter. Exclusively available on Windows 10, Microsoft Edge is our modern browser for helping you get things done.

Cortana, the personal digital assistant in Windows 10, has helped answer over 6 billion questions since launch.

People are playing games on Windows 10 more than ever before, with over 9 billion hours of gameplay on Windows 10 since launch.

Apps that come with Windows 10, including Photos, Groove Music, and Movies & TV are seeing millions of active users each month, including more than 144 million people using Photos.

And, the Windows Store continues to grow daily with new Universal Windows Platform apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger; updated UWP apps from Vine, Hulu, Netflix and Twitter; and popular PC games including Rise of the Tomb Raider and Quantum Break.

These Windows 10 services are getting better and better each month, with significant new innovations shipped in November, and many more coming in the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update this summer. Microsoft still does quietly offer the option
to get Windows 10 for free using Windows 7 and 8 product keys, even though the free
upgrade offer officially ended on July 29, 2016.)

That is good and the way to go.
I myself use Edge Browser and Cortana all the time
Also Bing, the one App I use a lot is the Windows Mail App that comes with 10
Got all my e-mail addresses all coming into one inbox, saves me having to hunt for them.
Also Office 2016 and 365 are great
All those I used to use 3rd party apps
Once My Antivirus runs out I will be switching to Windows Defender
Already using Windows 10 Firewall
Switched to that over weekend and already finding it a lot better than it was at one time.
So YES Windows 10 is the way forward

Windows 10 is running on 300 million active devices about nine months after the product was launched. Will the company extend its Windows 10 free upgrade offer to keep momentum going? Officials won't say.

Windows 10 is running on 300 million active devices as of May 5, according to Microsoft. That's up from 200 million devices four months ago and 270 million since the end of March.

Microsoft's goal is to have Windows 10 running on one billion devices by 2018.

Active devices" mean devices than have been active in the past 28 days, Microsoft officials have said. The figure includes not only Windows 10 installed on PCs, tablets and phones, but also on Xbox One consoles and HoloLens, Surface Hubs.

Today's blog post announcing the latest milestone also includes a reminder to users that Microsoft's first-year-free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ends on July 29, 2016. Just a reminder: The first-year-free upgrade deal means those running Windows 7, 8.X and Windows Phone 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. It doesn't mean those who upgraded for free start having to pay for Windows 10 after July 29.

Today's blog post seems to imply that Microsoft has decided definitively against extending its first-year free offer. It says:

"After July 29th, you'll be able to continue to get Windows 10 on a new device, or purchase a full version of Windows 10 Home for $119." (The $119 price is the current retail price of a copy of Windows 10 Home.)

However, this reminder doesn't necessarily mean Microsoft has decided against renewing that deal, a company spokesperson said when I asked.
