Windows 10: Windows 10 only allowing certain apps to play through my headsets

Good afternoon all,

I have been having the strangest issues after windows updates with my headphones. It started when my mic stopped working out of nowhere one day after an update, keep seeing the test picking up but it does pick up in my games. Then this became worse when, after another update, my headset stopped working completely...but here is the weird thing, they work if I listen to music in groove and a few other windows apps but I cannot get sound in my brave browser (watching twitch) as well as Apex Legends?

I have tried setting the default device
I have tried installing headphone drivers (it does not show the headphones as a device)
I have tried updating all sound drivers
I have just bought another headset and the problem persists.

It is driving me up the wall and now I have two useless headsets

My HD audio is Realtek
My WinVer is - Windows 10 - version 1903 build 18362.476
Headset 1 - Sade-807
Headset 2 - JBL in ear (cheap ones)

Thank you in advance for any help because I have found no joy in the weeks that I have been trying to get a workaround

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

• Launch the Store from your Start menu.
• Click the user icon next to the search box.
• Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
• Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
• When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”

I suggest you to run Built In troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Please follow the steps below to run Built in Troubleshooter:

• Type troubleshooting in the Search area on the Taskbar.
  
• Click on View all on the left panel of the Troubleshooting Windows.
  
• Select Windows store Apps.
  
• Follow the on screen instruction.
