Windows 10: Windows 10 Optional Features Crashes

Found a few people with similar issues no resolution though, so asking again.


My OS was getting a bit bloated so I did a full PC reset using Windows Recovery. After the new install things were going fine, installed the .Net optional features no problem. I ran into an issue though, can't remember what, I think it was a driver one, and I decided to reset the PC again as I hadn't installed much yet on it anyway.


Now came the issue, trying to install .Net Framework 3.5. Trying a manual install got the following error:





Trying an install through command prompt got same message. Trying an install through Apps > Optional Features, is impossible as the Optional Features window doesn't load and immediately crashes. Trying an install through the legacy Programs and Features throws up the following message when trying to install any features:





I tried doing an automatic fix of Windows Update, this did not help. I eventually resorted to a full PC reset again, but the problem persists through the reset. Windows Update itself functions normally and is updating fine. And I didn't have a problem with installing Optional Features prior to the initial reset. So yeah trying to find a solution to this annoying issue.

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
